We can do better for people experiencing a mental health emergency than the current two options: waiting in an emergency room chair for hours on end or ending up in the back of a police car. We need #ABetterResponse. Read about how we can change the status quo: https://lnkd.in/dfiD9wrW.

This is really good news - and hopefully reforms can be made for the better. Mind's proposed changes (https://lnkd.in/eYf_UBDc) rightly put the focus on ensuring that people are more involved and more considered in their treatment. I can think of many instances where I've heard of people being subjected to support and interventions which they feel do not work for them. This is why advance choice documents and the right to appeal decisions is so important! Patients and individuals accessing mental health support should feel empowered to say when something isn't working, and practitioners and support providers should listen and adopt approaches based on individual need and effectiveness of the support being offered. Too often people haven't been involved in their care, and that has meant that generalised models of support are used which simply don't work. The most powerful way to change that is to move to models which give individuals as much ownership over their treatment as possible. I'm cautiously optimistic about what this means going forward. Prevention is always better than cure, and the best path to effective prevention is working with people to understand the tools and techniques they can use to best support themselves.
In the #KingsSpeech, the UK government just committed to reforming the Mental Health Act. We’re over the moon 🎉 This has taken years of campaigning from across the mental health sector and will make a huge difference to people's lives. But it’s not the end of our fight. There are some key things that need to be included in any reforms to make sure they reflects the voices of people with mental health problems. And we’ll keep pushing to make sure those voices are heard in the right places.

This is progress. But. I want to see more schools with properly funded, fully functioning SEND units. I want to see comprehensive, accessible programmes that support neurodivergent young people into work. I want to see shorter waiting lists for NHS mental health therapies, rather than money spent on online support to fill the gap while people wait years, not months, for desperately needed therapies. Will this government be able to deliver? #mentalhealth #intowork #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthsupport #disabilityawareness #autismawareness #neurodiverse

This is incredible news! So many have campaigned for the Mental Health Act (UK) to be reformed - Mind, especially - as it is not fit for purpose (more here on why: https://lnkd.in/eryH4pSt.) Hopefully the reformation will take into account the voices of those with lived experience, to ensure it's suitable and supportive in a way that actually helps formal patients, and gives them more say in their own treatment. #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthact

So yesterday in the Houses of Parliament I put my case forward for treating the mental health PROBLEM not just the SYMPTOMS. The immediate benefits: ✅ The savings to the NHS ✅ The savings to local authorities ✅ And therefore the savings to you the tax payer But ultimately what does this mean in the real world: ✅ Healthy, Happy, Less Burdened Men ✅ Stronger Families ✅ Stronger Communities But how: Well more to come, but I’m happy to say I’ll be working closely with government support to create a plan that changes the fabric of society by addressing the core upstream, problem of men’s mental health: Loneliness. #itstimetotalk #truth #mentalhealth

🌍 Today, we stand together to raise awareness for an issue close to our hearts: 💚 World Mental Health Day! 🧡💙 While Mental Health affects everyone, we want to take a moment to acknowledge the incredible stress that law enforcement officers, analysts, and agents face on and off the job. 🕵️♂️👮♀️They not only protect and serve but also face immense challenges behind the scenes. Some days they carry the weight of their community on their shoulders and often neglect their own well-being. We extend our support to all LEOs, 🚓🔬🖥️ those on the street and behind a computer, who face unique mental health challenges in an effort to make their cities, states, and countries safer. We want to remind everyone that it's okay to ask for help. Together, we can foster a culture of compassion and provide a safe space for everyone to share their struggles. Remember, mental health matters, not just today, but every single day. Let's continue to break the stigma and promote a world where everyone feels heard, supported, and understood. 💪💚 #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #LawEnforcement #BreakTheStigma

🎵 Do you know what today is?🎵 #IYKYK It has been TWO YEARS since the debut of the first iteration of our Mental Health Emergency response guide. And with mental health emergency response teams being a key component in actively decriminalizing mental illness, making mental health care more accessible, and reducing police interaction, this guide has significantly moved the bar in creating a safer world for us ALL. By providing you with on-hand information to get the support you or a loved one may need during a mental health emergency, we’re raising awareness, and it’s making all the difference. And the more we talk about it and share about it, the more lives we save. So yeah, we’re out here celebrating today! We can both be joyful about the impact we're making as well as acknowledge there is much more to be done. Take the first step by downloading AND sharing the guide, located here: https://lnkd.in/ghFuGHC #1M4 #bebemoorecampbell #minoritymentalhealthawarenessmonth #blackmentalhealthmatters #minoritymentalhealth

This Human Rights Day, we unite around a fundamental truth: mental health is a human right. This truth highlights the need for universal access to crisis support and suicide prevention services, that are available when and where they're needed most. Just as physical health crises demand immediate attention, mental health and suicide crises deserve the same level of urgency and care. Our Members uphold these principles. Together, we take substantial steps toward creating a world where everyone's mental health matters. #HumanRights #HumanRightsDay

🌟🧠🚫 What a major disappointment! It truly saddens me to learn that Parliament has decided to drop the much-needed reform of the Mental Health Act. 😔 Without a change in legislation, it becomes even more daunting to tackle the prevailing stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health. 💔 Let's keep fighting for change💪🏽 #MentalHealthMatters #ReducingStigmaAndDiscrimination #AdvocacyInProgress
⏰ One person is detained under the Mental Health Act every 10 minutes in England. It's 40 years old and desperately needs to change. But today, government has dropped plans to reform it. Here's why that's a big mistake 👇
