An “Irritatingly good speaker” helping business owners to speak with authenticity, fun and confidence. Speaker Coach - Professional Speaker - Tattooed Brummie with a beard.
Being asked to do a short video for marketing an event you'll be speaking at will become more common. In fact I ask speakers to do it for the events I am organising. You'd be surprised how many don't, and many of these people are professional speakers. What would it feel like if you could take your phone, record a response and send it? And if you struggle to do that now, what help do you need? ——— I’m Dave 👋🏼 Me —> I help business owners to speak with confidence and authenticity. I will never understand how people who speak for a living panic for a one minute promotional video 😅
I was asked recently to do videos before event and felt ok with that (due to Andy Greenhouse SVS) however I’m not saying it was perfect 🤣 - I think people fear not having all the ‘correct ‘ equipment plus there is that other fear that we will be judged and not liked by invisible viewers
This just makes sense Dave. I will take this idea and do an after-the-event clip of my workshop later. PS I keep misreading your hashtag for datethecoach... 🤔😅
Absolutely petrifying at first, but I'm with you Dave James - it's an essential tool. The power of connection that video can bring is enormous (provided the recipient is receptive to a Welsh lilt, rather than BBC news received pronunciation!)
Great challenge Dave James - to change the way I feel about doing the video today and how I would like to feel in the future about it.
Love the funny voice!! 😂 I would be ok doing that, but it would probs take a few goes…
If you’re asked for a video and you’re a speaker already it’s interesting that the two aren’t parallels Dave. I’d now find it easier to do a video than to speak… but it’s takes a LOT of practice. Love the tiny you : )
I love ‘chipmunk Dave’!!! Haha 😂 I don’t have an issue doing this but o do know that most people absolutely hate recording a video of themselves. I guess I used to be that person too but practice and maturing (I use that term loosely) past 50 has me giving less effs about a lot of things, including what people I hardly know think of a 60 second clip of me.
Dave A quick video intro is a really engaging way for the audience to connect with the speaker before an event. I suspect the inner narrative of those who are resistant to doing is “I don’t want them to not like me before I’ve even given my talk!” Plus the whole feeling weird on camera thing. I’m sure you’ve got a lot up your sleeve that could help folks immensely with this.

2mo1) Great post and absolutely necessary skill to develop. I’ve been asked for a video for nearly every speaking gig this year. 2) Re: the audio request you played — are you speaking at an event hosted by the Chipmunks? (If so, please send the date, cause I’m there!)
