D I V E R S I F I C A T I O N _ D A Y D R E A M S How many of us over the years have thought about a complete career change? How many of us have actually taken the leap and made the dream a reality? How many of us are in a job that has been or quite soon maybe threatened by Artifical Intelligence / automation? How many children at school choosing options or already enrolled on GSCEs, A Levels or at University and are realising their dream job may not exist once they qualify? What about those (like me) who just found their way into a job without any real thought about it being a "career"? Retraining and diversifying is possible! One of our team was infact a Butcher who retrained with us gaining new skills & competence and is a fantastic Technician with a great future ahead of him. (It was due to great customer feedback for him and one of our junior Technicians that I made this post) Anything is possible with the right aptitude & attitude, but above all that, just to be a good person. AI will change the landscape of available jobs forever. Engineering & Construction are sectors who are engaging with AI, but AI can't finish a building, or maintain it..... How do we determine someone as competent? What are the old methods that existed previously that are NOT classed as competence? In the picture attached these are the main areas that unfortunately are ineffective, however this list is by no means exhaustive, there are also reasons why they prove to be ineffective: Training ·       Training in isolation is not competence, it underpins this but it is only part of the process and some training can not simulate real life situations unless on the worksite itself and using the organisations processes and procedures. Although VR/AR is making this more accessible but there are other elements which involve Skills, Knowledge, Attitude, Experience that needs to be demonstrated. Log books, Folders, Spreadsheets Competence Matrixes ·       Unfortunately this type of methods of determining competence, can be retrospective and doesn’t display currency. Also many of these methods are cumbersome and very time consuming to complete and an inefficient way of storing information, especially if large organisations want to reduce their carbon footprint. This a very antiquated method, particularly when digitalisation has proven how effective and simplistic this process can be for demonstrating competence. CV’s ·       CV’s unfortunately only presents exposure and regardless of the time at a location does not capture standards that were attained as some organisations, do not utilise a Competence Management System so are unable to transfer across what has been previously captured. As a senior undergraduate, I am intrigued to find out the mechanisms of professionalism as soon as possible. One such experience will be in joining the virtual job simulation. I just completed General Electric's Engineering on Forage. Anyone interested can check out the simulation here: https://lnkd.in/gv5_2-TM The Job sim is carefully planned by the GE team. It consists of three parts the field of energy business, healthcare business, and aviation business. I tried this to show my skillset, especially to the recruiter at GE HealthCare. All in all, it was an immersive General Electric Corporate Job, so not only I did do the simulation in healthcare but also energy and aviation. The first task was to understand the practical GE Vernova business lane in delivering energy needs whether it's nuclear, renewables, or gas turbines. The Second task was to put oneself in the chair of a ventilator device supply chain manager and formulate a strategy of supply amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Then one needs to prepare a presentation to hold responsible its decision and show the effectiveness of certain supply strategies to consumers (Hospital). The third task was to examine overall instrumentation and control systems in an airplane and make sure the line of command signal, plant, and feedback are put in place, in the correct order. One should comprehend all systems variables that an airplane takes into account, prepare its physical electronics systems and "mathematical system plant", and make it work automatically. This is one task engineers done at GE Aerospace. Referring to all my experience, General Electric's Engineering on Forage virtual job simulation provided me with a lot of insight into the real working atmosphere at GE. The simulation trains me to be an engineer and a manager. But what I am trying to achieve is an experience in one possible career as a medical physicist. These days Aldino focuses a lot on training himself in the field of nuclear medicine and "radiotherapeutic" accelerator technology. I hope to do more of this kind of self-education in the immediate future and am eager to attend any development program by related institutions in healthcare.

I am presently taking the Artificial Intelligence Career Essential(AICE) course by Alx Africa and it has been mind-blowing. I have learned a lot, one of the things that I have learned is how to apply for jobs on LinkedIn and it came with some pro tips. Applying for jobs on LinkedIn is something that I struggled with in the past. The weekly milestones on the course provide hands-on experience, you will always learn one or two things. I learned about creative thinking, creativity drives innovation and problem-solving across all sectors. Creative thinking isn't just for artists and designers. It's a free course. I recommend that as a virtual assistant or even if you are in any other career path, you should take the course. Artificial intelligence is the future of work.
