DiMonte Group understands how empathic and user-centric design practices can affect a company’s bottom line. In 2018 our industrial design team conducted an in-depth ergonomic study on slot machines for Elite Gaming . The data we provided helped them improve the comfort and usability of their product, giving them a competitive edge.     We kicked off our research by visiting casinos and observing users in their natural gaming environment. This allowed us to recognize details, for example, women tend to play slot machines more often and need a place for their purses. To aid us in this research we referenced anthropometric data resources like “Measure of Man and Woman” by Henry Dreyfus.  The next step was to do some physical testing. Using #solidworks 3D CAD software to ensure the development of our model was precise, we constructed a versatile foam core mockup featuring ten adjustable elements. To ensure the design’s suitability for a diverse range of individuals, we conducted thorough testing with 13 subjects representing various sizes, weights, and genders. This comprehensive approach allowed us to refine the ergonomics of the machines for better performance and user satisfaction resulting in faster, longer play.     We provided all our research findings with an accompanying CAD schematic that laid out the optimum placement of physical components like the table height, screen distance, button placement, etc. Elite was able to use our findings to revolutionize the ergonomics of their slot machine design improving comfort for their users. #industrialdesign #usercentricdesign #productdesign #productdevelopment
