We don’t give promotions or pay rises based on how long someone has been with us…    we base them on quality of work and impact.    An employee recently joined us and within 6 months they had already made a huge impact on the company.   After constantly delivering and achieving outstanding results, why should they have to wait another 6 months for a review?   They deserved a promotion, so we gave it to them.   Simple as that.   It’s about time we reward hard work with career growth, not slices of pizza...      #leadership #careergrowth #employment #recruitment

Small Gestures Received this box of goodies personally from my company's COO on the occasion of Father's Day and while naysayers will be quick to point out the equivalent monetary value amounts to less than one meal in a restaurant, I on the other hand sees it for what it truly is Sure it isn't exactly newsworthy like Evergreen and their 52 months bonus payout or the USD55mil Taylor Swift gave to her Eras Tour crew but companies shouldn't let these insurmountable targets get in the way of showing appreciation to their employees Unlike the tipping culture in the Western world where it is not only expected but forms an essential part of the remuneration especially for those in the service sector, us Asians are more accustomed to not expecting anymore than our regular paycheck for the services we rendered Thanks to that fact, companies are free to choose how they wish to exploit it either by being shrewd and giving only what's absolutely necessary or by being magnaminous and going above and beyond knowing that the littlest of gestures would reap rewards of manyfold Companies which find itself suffering from dangerously high attrition rates far outstripping that of successful recruits especially for the most challenging mid-management category should take heed and do well to harness the power of retention that lies in these small gestures Of course it would be remiss to say that it is an equivalent substitute for the mid year bonus, promotion and increment coming up soon but with consistency and added personal touch, it does well enough to fill in the gaps few and far between

As a company, your goal is not to continually recruit warm bodies to fill the same roles over and over. Your HR department is better utilized when the focus in on retention. Get the right people, and keep them for the long haul. Learn how to recognize and retain the best people, for every open position. The cost of a new hire as compared to a trained, retained, loyal, effective, asset? It's enough to make you want to bring back the holiday bonus and pajama Friday, or at least say thank you to those who stick around after the first year. How do you keep your crew on mission, and ready to give it their all? You've heard the best customer service begins after the sale right? Translate that to your team. If your company has a high rate of turn over..look into your retention strategies. Is your team just napping it out and waiting for happy hour? Are they feeling invisible? Unappreciated? Taken advantage of? Overworked? Underpaid? Look into your recognition and motivation protocols. Give them a reason to work hard for you. Give them a reason to stay.

A conversation with my sister inspired me to write this post. She has been working at the same company for over 20 years. She started in sales and now works in the office. In the meantime, she was offered a promotion to a managerial position. Talking to her, she told me that she would never trade her job for another. I asked why? She replied that despite the tough moments, such as the pre-holiday rush, she wouldn’t leave. Why? Because she feels appreciated by her boss. The company regularly organizes training sessions and integration meetings several times a year. She receives a monthly bonus, and if the company has increased turnover, there’s also a sales bonus. Additionally, the company offers various other perks, and the boss treats everyone with respect. At the end of the year, there is a party where the boss thanks everyone for their cooperation and the effort they put into their work, saying that without them, the company wouldn’t exist. I know that such an approach to employees is not the norm, but as you can see, it sometimes happens.
