#repost IBEW Hour Power Organized labor has a way of bringing people together for a common goal - to improve the lives of workers through better working conditions, better benefits, and solid safety standards. CS Construction started in 1980 originally as a concrete structures company, but as they grew they added an electrical arm in 1994 to build traffic signals and highway lighting. As a part of this niche electrical market, heavy in civil construction, their workers must have a quality electrical background to succeed. In order to grow the business and develop reliable workers, CS Construction partnered with IBEW Local 769 to unionize. The partnership between Local 769 and CS Construction is mutually beneficial - it helps CS retain workers with union benefits and it makes Local 769 stronger as a traffic signal union. Furthermore, working together through the AJATC apprenticeship program will help create better, safer traffic signal journeymen. Learn more about the partnership between Local 769 and CS Construction in today’s feature video! #unionstrong #construction #electric #promote #unionize

I saw a post on LinkedIn this morning, forgive me as I don't recall who the poster was... but he was making a point regarding how those in the construction industry with decades of experience should be training the next generation as they have such a wealth of knowledge. I totally agree, but wanted to add that this relationship can be reciprocal. The next generation are superstars when it comes to technology and at Pitt Meadows Plumbing we've had instances where the mentoring relationship goes both ways. The example we've talked about a few times was when we had a 25 year + Red Seal leading a first year apprentice and teaching him what it means to be a plumber. We had just introduced job boxes (a computer with access to project drawings on a rolling cart-- will add a photo in comments!) but it had sat unused as the Red Seal just hadn't used computers much during his career. But guess who had used computers pretty much his whole life? Once the Red Seal learned how to navigate with that job box, it was a whole new world. There's just something to be said for a willingness to learn, no matter what stage of life you're at. Even I've learned a few things from those decades younger than me. #Skilledtrades #Construction #NextGeneration

Does taking the FE Civil Exam help me get a job abroad? Taking the FE Civil Exam can be a positive step in your engineering career, and it might assist in finding a job abroad. It's important to consider a few key points. The FE exam and PE license, are primarily recognized in the United States. They signify that you have met a certain standard of competence in engineering. If you're looking at jobs in the U.S. or at American companies abroad, having passed the FE exam can definitely be a plus. Other countries may have their own certification processes and requirements for engineers. Passing the FE exam shows a foundational level of engineering knowledge, which is universally valuable, but it may not directly translate to meeting the licensure requirements in another country. While the specifics of the FE exam may not be recognized globally, the knowledge and skills it represents are universally applicable in civil engineering. Employers abroad might value the dedication and competence it demonstrates. Successfully passing the FE exam can also enhance your resume and may make you a more attractive candidate to employers, both in the U.S. and internationally. It shows commitment to your profession and a readiness to meet standardized benchmarks of knowledge and skill. If you're seriously considering working abroad, it would be beneficial to research the specific engineering qualifications required in your country of interest. You might need additional certifications or to pass local engineering exams. In summary, while passing the FE Civil Exam is an impressive achievement and indicative of your expertise in the field, its direct impact on employment opportunities abroad will vary depending on the country and the employer. It's one part of a larger picture that includes experience, other qualifications, and sometimes, additional country-specific certifications.
