More than 100,000 kilometers of #England's aging sewer #pipelines grapple with the dual burden of excessive #rainwater and #sewage. England's sewer infrastructure confronts a monumental obstacle: antiquated systems. Consequently, the influx of sewage and rainwater surpasses initial projections, resulting in Combined Storm Overflows (CSOs) releasing into the surrounding environment. #SewerSystems #RainwaterManagement #SewageManagement #CSOs #WaterManagement #Sustainability #WaterPollution https://lnkd.in/eDtmNJnE

💦Arizona Limits Construction Around Phoenix as Its Water Supply Dwindles 💦 Arizona has determined that there is not enough groundwater for all of the housing construction that has already been approved in the Phoenix area, and will stop developers from building some new subdivisions, a sign of looming trouble in the West and other places where overuse, drought and climate change are straining water supplies. The decision by state officials very likely means the beginning of the end to the explosive development that has made the Phoenix area the fastest growing metropolitan region in the country. https://smpl.is/8ilvs #watercrisis #arizonawater #phoenixconstruction #groundwater #drought #climatechange #housingdevelopment #westwatersupply

“I think the problem that we uncovered is not at all unique to Beaufort,” Nelson said. “The stormwater network was never designed to have water come back up through it [from the creek] and then go into places where pedestrians encounter and so we’re now in an era where we have to think about how our infrastructure systems are being stressed in new ways and how that might lead to new types of issues like maybe floodwaters having issues with contamination, but it’s a topic of ongoing research.” Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eeBs5KRj #stormwater #skimmer #stormwatermanagement #rymarwaterworks

Tampa's rapid development, limited space for traditional stormwater systems, and strong storms, make underground stormwater devices an effective and practical solution to manage stormwater runoff. Specialized maintenance and vacuum truck services keep these devices, and stormwater pipes, functioning as designed to safeguard commercial properties from issues like flooding, damage, access challenges, and compliance fines. https://lnkd.in/gcBM9srq #dragonflypondworks #stormwatermanagement #tampastormwater #tampafacilities #facilitymanagement #commercialpropertymanagement

“Congested outfalls, clogged catch basins and brittle pipes; there’s little question that the state of Bloomfield’s stormwater drainage system is in dire need of updates and maintenance.” Like many places around the country, Bloomfield, NJ’s stormwater infrastructure is in need of upgrades. In addition to aging storm drains that predate significant state infrastructure, as the city has developed, they have paved over the grassy areas leaving a lack of green spaces. The city has engaged engineers to map out the whole system so that problem areas can be identified and next steps can be mapped out. 20th century solutions can't keep up with climate change! Concrete isn't good for people or our environment. In order to transform our urban environments into resilient communities that benefit people and the planet, we need a lot more green space and a lot less concrete. Thankfully, there's a lot of momentum in the right direction starting with the passage of Measure W (which Los Angeles Waterkeeper helped craft & pass) which created the Safe Clean Water Program. LA is finally starting to see stormwater as an asset, and increasingly critical part of a local water supply, rather than a liability bringing flood risk and pollution. #resilientcommunities #greeninfrastructure #climatechange #water
As relentless rains pounded LA, the city’s “sponge” infrastructure helped gather 8.6 billion gallons of water—enough to sustain over 100,000 households for a year.

“It’s forcing that decision that all of us in coastal communities are going to face eventually, but some are already facing now: Do I stay or do I go?” It’s not seawater lapping at living rooms that will force large-scale abandonment of coastal #realestate due to #climatechange. Sea level rise will be the culprit, but its first manifestation will be collapsing septic tank systems. As the water table rises, such systems begin to fail by releasing untreated #sewage. The #publichealth impacts are already mounting. Some #cities are able to extend their sewer systems to communities under threat, but what of areas that are too far from the nearest sewer line? A #Miami exurb or rural community in coastal #Georgia may not be able to adapt by building a full-fledged #watertreatment system. They could be the first areas to be abandoned.

Case Study: The problem: Montgomery County, Maryland had badly corroded underground stormwater quality infrastructure, many of which are falling in on themselves. Constrained access into the structures is another hurdle that had to be overcome. The solution: BMP’s innovative Split SNOUTs were used to replace the existing corroded infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/gDVNd4xZ #stormwater #trashcapture #bmphood #civilengineering #bestmanagementproducts
