This conclusion is from a pan-European study, in which the researchers monitored 5,798 apiaries in 17 European countries. And the colony losses over two years. I've been saying this for many years already: Beekeepers are the largest and most important environmental influence for managed honey bee colonies. And as most honey bee colonies are managed, beekeepers have to put their animal first and look at their needs. The good thing: You can always learn and make things better. I had already shared this study: https://lnkd.in/evp4tugM #beehealth #BeeSafe #beeknowledge

#Guess: Whose tracks are these? There are two sets of tracks – one insect and one mammal. Can you narrow it down further? Hints: 🐾The larger tracks belong to an animal which uses its long snout to dig out bulbs, tubers, spiders, fungi and witchetty grubs 🐾 The small tracks likely belong to an insect with a similar diet of plants, fungi or invertebrates Leave your guess in the comments and check back tomorrow to see if you were right! 📸 J Stephens #AWC #AustralianWildlife #AnimalTracks #WildlifeTracks #Guess

The salamander mussel, also known as the mudpuppy mussel, begins its life attached to mudpuppy salamanders, a native species of special concern in southern Indiana. The Center for Biological Diversity identifies freshwater mussels like these as the "most endangered organisms in the U.S." If the salamander mussel gains the proposed endangered status, nearly 395 miles of Indiana streams will gain new protections. https://lnkd.in/gWP9rMAF
A tiny freshwater mussel found in Indiana could gain federal protection. Here's why

New Publication !!!! #invasive species In the last chapter of my dissertation I am disscussing successful chemical control startegy to mange invasive species (invasive snails in my case) in the Adirondacks region. Field work was hard - finding and collecting 100 s of snails. Lab work was hard- I had to come up with a concentration series that would work for both snails and obviously test them at leathal doses. Final outcome - this publication, which can be provide a baseline for any molluscicidal work for these snails in future. Future work- what can be the effect for non target species? Can we start field trials ? These are open ended questions.

Research and technology like this could be a game-changer for human-wildlife conflict. Keeping predators and large herbivores away from key areas will greatly promote coexistence. https://lnkd.in/eku3eSUp

Did you know that you can find over 30 plant species in a single quarter-square meter plot of grasslands, and that these habitats support over 90% of the endangered plants and animals in California? Grasslands are very dynamic; they have what’s called high interannual variation, which means they do not stay the same from year to year.
