Meet our intern, John Trejo-Chavez! He was an invaluable member of our retail studio team this summer. Here’s a little more about John: 1️⃣ What college do you attend? I am a graduate of Greenville Technical college with an associate degree in architectural drafting. I am currently a third-year architecture major at Clemson University College of Architecture, Art and Construction. 2️⃣ What year will you graduate from Clemson? I plan to graduate in May 2024. 3️⃣ Where are you from? I am from Greenville, South Carolina, and I graduated from Greenville High School. 4️⃣ What are some of your biggest influences? I have always been interested in art, some of my greatest influences are artist. Notably Pablo Picasso, the greats from the Renaissance, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Caravaggio just to name a few. 5️⃣ How do you typically approach problem-solving? When approaching a problem, I like to use an interative process. Trying something, seeing if it works, trying a different approach, combining the two, starting over bases on what I learned, learning from failed steps. #MOATeam #MOAArchitecture #MOAInc #architect #architecturestudent #ClemsonArchitecture

Meet with Krystin, the founder of Arch K #career #architecture #archk 🌟Our firm specializes in offering career consultations for recent graduates, aiding them in securing employment in areas such as architecture, interior design, urban design, and landscape design. 🌟We provide comprehensive coaching services tailored for international students and all graduate students. 🌟Our team includes experienced designers who serve as educators, guiding graduates in crafting their #portfolio , #resume, and #coverletter . ➡️At the outset, we organize bi-weekly complimentary lectures, introducing the basics of the architecture industry and demystifying the entire job-seeking journey. ➡️During the peak of job-hunting season, we also share details about vacancies at the top 30 firms. For a more in-depth approach, we facilitate one-on-one mentoring and customized coaching throughout the entire process of job hunting. 🌟We've developed a practical and effective teaching methodology. To date, over a hundred students have attained fulfilling job offers under our specialized and tailored guidance. ➡️Our primary advantage lies in our professionalism. We have professionals in fields like architecture, landscape design, urban design, and interior design to provide expert advice and mentorship, a responsibility we take seriously and consider a key competitive edge. ➡️At times, these educators are employed at leading firms in the student's area of study, akin to having the test maker tutor the students, which significantly boosts learning and preparation efficiency. ➡️Another key element we uphold is integrity. The job coaching sector often sees promises that exceed delivery. Many organizations assure specific job offers, sometimes leading to mismatches in expectations and expertise. However, the true measure of success in job coaching is a collaborative effort. We adamantly avoid making promises we can't keep. We clarify to our students from the start that while we diligently coach each one, they also have a responsibility to complete their assigned tasks. This shared understanding greatly enhances the effectiveness and success rate of our students in obtaining job offers. #jobhunt #architects #interiordesign #urbanplanning #landscape #trainning #joboffer #architecturedesign

Yesterday, I had the privilege of sharing my journey starting my career in architecture at The University of Queensland Kickstart Your Career EAIT Bootcamp on the graduate panel. From my first year of study, I was anxious about securing a job in architecture. The scarcity of practices offering graduate programs and the limited availability of junior positions, particularly for 'year out' opportunities, made the thought of future employment daunting. It seemed everyone I talked to stressed the importance of industry experience prior to pursuing post graduate studies. Fortunately, I received a referral for a student role from one of my tutors which helped me to start out, but navigating employment during undergraduate studies remained challenging. During the session, I emphasized several key points in response to the students questions: 1. Take initiative: During your studies, reach out directly to practices and architects, ask to do a week of work experience, or even visit them for a day shadowing them for a day to gain exposure. 2. Get involved: Participation in extracurricular activities such as the SONA SuperStudio design competitions are an awesome opportunity to network whilst expanding your design skills and portfolio. 3. Attend and network: Attend various events such as product information nights, exhibitions, SONA talks, and design workshops. Building connections within the industry is crucial. 4. Reach out: Send your portfolio to practices that inspire you. In addition to your portfolio, include a well-crafted cover letter expressing your specific interest in their project work. Follow up with a phone call to the practice to ensure your email is seen. 5. Diversify your portfolio: Showcase not only your finished projects but also the process. Include rough sketches, photos of physical models, and also any related creative endeavors outside of your formal studies that demonstrates your skillset (photography, artwork, graphic design, furiniture renovation, etc). 6. Seek guidance: Don't hesitate to approach your tutors and lecturers about your career aspirations. They will likely have industry contacts they can either refer you onto or pass on contacts for. Proactive engagement, networking, and diversification of skills and experiences are key to navigating the challenges of kickstarting a career in architecture. Thank you for the invite Olivia Dwyer, Rialet Le Roux who moderated the panel and of course the other panelists who also shared their exciting career experiences Pip Taylor, Stephanie Taylor, Riley Mackey and Kim Gao . #UQ #employability #careerdevelopment #UQArchitecture

Brian, a partner at HKP, joined the firm as a student intern in 1991 and just celebrated 31 years at HKP last month! “How the buildings I’ve worked on serve their communities has been the really rewarding part of working at HKP. Being a part of that process and seeing their impact brings that sense of reward. Drafting class in high school is what led me to the architecture industry—something about creating the drawings just kept drawing me back to it, so to speak. Somewhere I read a quote about architects creating the stage backdrops for real life (or something like that) and the idea that everything built around us is designed by someone really intrigued me. For both work and life, I’m inspired by exposure to new information and knowledge, even more so when I get to put that knowledge into action. My favorite ways to spend free time are riding my motorcycle on a long and winding road, being productive on the tractor, travel, and hiking local trails with family. I’ve also served on a series of non-profit boards, culminating with Skagit Habitat for Humanity and the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce.” How do you express yourself creatively outside of work? “Learning carpentry and woodworking: finding a project online and building it.” Favorite travel destination? “For my wife’s 50th we went to Italy. I had never traveled overseas (other than Hawaii) before. We spent a few days each in Rome, Florence, Venice, and Naples. Hands down, I’d like to return to Florence and take the time to explore even more. A great walkable downtown, lots of history, architecture, and at the time there was a DaVinci exhibit too.” A topic you could give an hour-long presentation on with little to no preparation? “Modern rocketry and US space exploration history. I can’t say that everyone else would enjoy that hour as much as I would though.” #HKParchitects #meettheteam #pnwarchitect #mountvernonwa #community #architecture #sustainabledesign

I remember 10 months ago, of the image on the left, the work we were carrying out for well over a year then. Now, on the right, a small snip of a much wider development that represents the culmination of this project, coming to rendition, and all the team involved can only be proud of what we've achieved! Another section of this impressive icone of British history and architecture is now coming live, and another part, will carry on being renovated to bring it into fruition, reshaping Whitehall Campus estate to enable a more efficient civil service, within a smart, hybrid, inclusive and sustainable workplace. #governmentprojects #gpa #workplacetransformation

A set of renders I did during my internship period, and it is completely done using Enscape (no post processing). I think the material library and the material manipulating parameters of Enscape are really good and it is really great for beginners. #enscape #rendering #architecture #interiordesign
