In this latest article, researchers unveil the paradox of high-protein diets, shedding light on how they can be a cornerstone of health for athletes while posing potential risks to the general population's well-being. While athletes benefit from these diets with enhanced energy, muscle recovery, and strength, emerging research suggests that individuals not engaged in intense physical activity may face health complications.
However, a fascinating twist in this narrative is the potential health benefits of strength training, which may help mitigate the risks associated with a high-protein diet. This exploration of the intricate balance between protein intake, lifestyle, and individual needs aims to empower everyone to make informed dietary choices and optimize their well-being. 🌟🥦💪

✔ What does the consumer need to make the healthy and sustainable choice the easy choice? What do industry and health professionals need to make this happen? How can digital technology, data and AI support these needs?
💬 Let’s discuss these topics at the Conference Personalised Nutrition & Health, because industry and science need each other to bring personalised nutrition for consumers to the next level.
🤝 This conference is a collaboration between TNO, Wageningen University & Research and research/innovative companies. Also, the content reflects on the results of recent studies and discusses the future of nutrition and health for people. More info: https://lnkd.in/dccecV2r
Consumer healthcare companies are enthusiastically embracing personalised healthcare, but is the science robust enough to make this more than a passing trend?
Tailoring healthcare interventions to individual characteristics is intuitive, and has the potential to enhance effectiveness and minimise risk. While pharma companies have naturally focused their efforts on using personalised healthcare to treat major diseases such as cancer, the consumer sector has so far largely targeted wellness initiatives. These include offering tailored vitamin recommendations or dietary/lifestyle advice based on data from questionnaires, physiological measurements or genetic testing.
Although some areas of research are evolving rapidly, it’s fair to say that in general the science has not yet caught up with the enthusiasm. Understanding of the significance of glucose "spikes" in the healthy population continues to evolve, and intra-individual variation may limit the value of advice based on continuous glucose monitoring. Although there is growing recognition of the characteristics of a healthy gut microbiome, evidence is lacking to demonstrate that tailoring nutritional recommendations based on specific microbiome characteristics results in better outcomes than conventional nutritional approaches.
The concept of personalised healthcare is likely to have enduring appeal for consumers, but more evidence will be needed before its full potential can be realised.
