Business leaders must focus on what’s happening in the Middle East right now - and considering the lessons they can learn, including how to talk to their teams about it. These Masters of Scale episodes hosted by Bob Safian are outstanding and an invaluable resource.
I’ve hosted 175 podcast episodes over the last 3 years, from Covid to Ukraine, Airbnb to Verizon But nothing I’m prouder of — and more conflicted about — than the 3 episodes in the last 2 weeks: on the ground in Israel; in support of Palestinian & Israeli biz collaboration; and voices from inside Gaza. I hope you’ll listen to the full series and reflect on those in pain and danger on both sides. There are business lessons (of course), but more important are the human lessons - about empathy, resilience, patience, calm. I don’t have a resolution to the crisis, but I’m sure that if we all strive to achieve those principles, our world will be a more humane, generous, forgiving place. Thanks to Maayan Cohen at Hello Heart, Daniel Lubetzky 🇺🇦 at KIND, Arnaud Quemin and the team at Mercy Corps for making it all possible. “One of the interesting tools that I can think of in delineating ethnic identity is the ID card and its origins in the kipande system during colonial times to control movement and extract labour from African natives. In the present day, the ID doesn’t seem to confer a sense of belonging more than it does the sense of not belonging for those who are not able to obtain this important document.” – Dr. Kamau Wairuri Listen to the episode now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Google Podcasts or on our website: www.theKenyanist.com #TheKenyanist #Ethnicity #Kenya #Politics #Podcast #Tribes #Siasa

Mike Abel asked me, " What is a conversation we're not having with South Africa right now?". My immediate response was, "What am I doing to be part of the solution?". It's easy to be a couch critic and talk about what our leaders should be doing, and while there is accountability to be had, we are citizens and not victims. As active participants in our reality, we need to have the courage to be more involved. After all, Ubuntu is about serving the collective and not the individual. As we head into elections in 20 days, I leave you with these questions: What are you doing to be a part of the solution? What does active citizenry mean to you? If you'd like to listen to my full conversation with Mike, listen to his podcast Willing & Abel Podcast.
