"Imagine you’re the leader of your country… Would you meet with a leader from another country responsible for atrocities and wanted for war crimes?" Andrew Stroehlein explores this question in today's Daily Brief:
Yes, as a politician, that is the responsibility that comes with the swanky office. Don't praise things that are not praiseworthy, don't try to sweep things under the rug that are already out in the open, but try to broach important topics that need to be addressed in a diplomatic manner... there you go: politics, also diplomacy... We should get back to that sometime and leave the propagandistic and incendiary speeches behind. Just the two cents in pocket nobody cares about...
Thanks Andrew. I wouldn’t want to be in that position I don’t think! We hope one day that Palestinians will be seen as human enough to be capable of being affronted by not just world leaders meetings with Israeli war criminals but the jumping to their defence and continued arming of their military all through a genocide. As for the case of Modi, if he has been looking in the mirror, then I wonder if the issue is moot.
You might have mentioned the U.S. welcoming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a Joint Meeting of Congress. I hope you will mention this before Netanyahu comes to the U.S.?
Are you kidding? Nobody could ever meet anyone from the Usa! 🤣😆🤣
Yes! Every one's are leading there Owen country's right
This war is a tragedy. Every day there there are human losses on both sides, and people on both sides are trying to stop it. I am sure if a mother, -whose son were a solder, fighting, -were a president- she would do anything for this war to be over and would not be stopping to find any solutions to stop it, including discussions. Only Stalin didn't exchange his own son back, when given such an option in WWII. Especially in a nuclear era, when humanity as such is strengthened. Human life is invaluable, and just military approach by itself is not proving to be a solution. It might take a lot of courage though to confront personal discussions for Western leaders, as it would be perceived by many as a sign of weakness rather, and perception is too important for leaders of strong countries. Ego/perception versus a step towards stopping losses of lives though.
