North Atlantic hurricane activity in 2024 will be hyper-active, according to the latest prediction from TSR (Tropical Storm Risk), with activity almost double the 1991-2020 climate norm. Firmer reinsurance rates and improved profitability have yet to see an influx of new entrants into the reinsurance market, bucking the trend of previous cycles, according to AM Best. “A class of startup reinsurers usually forms quickly to capitalise on the interruption in the reinsurance demand-supply equilibrium,” said Dan Hofmeister, associate director of AM Best.
