As a newer associate at Homans, Chris has done a tremendous job assisting Braintree contractors using our new texting feature. When I tell you I love my dog... Of course I'm bias, like most dog owners in that I think I have the best dog anyone could ask for. The funny thing I've noticed about him is that I can throw the ball no stop and he will give it all he's got every time. I could feed him every hour on the hour and he's never full. Most sales people get full or satisfied after we get the reward. Maybe you had a good last month, a great last quarter, your best year...But can you do it again? Did you know? Humor is a powerful weapon of persuasion. Done right, it’s a pattern-interrupt that disarms skepticism and lowers sales resistance. Case in point: My dog Hulk. I feature him in letters and emails all the time. People who love dogs are drawn to his face. They smile and read whatever I write next to his photo. Which is good for response. People who don't love dogs? Screw them, I don't want them as clients. Anyway, pets are about the only safe topic for jokes in 2023 because they haven’t been politicized (yet). I've never had a complaint about my dogs in 10+ years of using them in letters, emails, and videos. The price is right, too. Instead of photo royalties, dogs accept payment in treats and extra walks.

Let me share a tail-wagging story that'll change your perspective on workplace companions! Today, my dog Roy joined me for work, and here's what happened: ↳ The Setup: I had a Discovery Call (Zoom) with a potential client. Those calls usually require follow-ups to seal the deal. ↳ The Plot Twist: 15 minutes into the call, Roy decided it was walkies time. One bark, then another, and... ↳ The Magic Moment: Client: "Do you have a dog there, Elad?" Me: "Yes, he's excited and wants to go for a walk" (apologetic tone) Client: "Nice, what's his name?" ↳ The "Beer Buddy" Effect: I noticed a PING - that moment when you connect with someone on a personal level. It's like finding a potential friend you'd enjoy sharing a beer with. ↳ The Unexpected Close: I showed Roy on camera, and we chatted about him for 2-3 minutes. Me: “I apologize, but can we reschedule the call so that I can take Roy for a walk, in the meantime, you could go over my proposal…” Client: “No problem, I can send the signed proposal by the time you get back!" ↳ Key Takeaway: Identify the "Beer Buddy" moment in your client interactions. So I heard this parable today about a hot dog vendor which got me thinking... There once was a man who sold hot dogs. He was hard of hearing so he had no radio, and he had trouble with his eyes so he read no newspapers. But he sold good hot dogs, and people bought. A LOT. He increased his meat and bun orders. He bought a bigger stove to take care of his trade. He expanded and bought additional carts. He got his son home from college to help him out. His son said, “Dad, haven’t you been listening to the radio? Haven’t you been reading the newspapers? There’s a massive economic depression!” The father thought, “Well, my son reads the papers and he listens to the radio, and he ought to know.” So the father cut down on his meat and bun orders, took down his advertising signs, and no longer bothered to stand out on the corner to sell his hot dogs. And his hot dog sales fell almost overnight. “You’re right, son” the father said to the boy. “We certainly are in the middle of a great depression.” Which got me thinking... When you hear others telling you times are hard, opportunities are shrinking, or a depression is coming - how does that serve you? When you pick up the phone - do you expect success or failure?
