Einschulung- Incorporating Culture in Onboarding
There are many important events in a person's life that have a great impact on our personal life and later career. And these events should be taken very seriously and supported by management/government for a better outcome.
Today, let's talk about the traditional Einschulung process in Germany that has shaped the German workplace culture for centuries: punctuality is key and efficiency thrives on good planning, organization, team spirit and good communication. I can't help but think of the various onboarding processes companies use to hire talent today, but wouldn't a cultural onboarding approach make the experience more meaningful and memorable? I would appreciate more suggestions and insights 😊
The goal of the Onboarding process is to familiarize employees with the company's culture, development plans and policies. In today's world, cultivating a strong bond between employer and employee is critical to ensuring that new global team members are highly productive and convert that productivity into loyalty. And the Germans implement this in their system from preschool age.
As a result, hardly any child in Germany is afraid of elementary school, and attendance and engagement are remarkable because the system (government, educational institution, parents) ensures that each child has an easy and enjoyable experience that helps him or her develop from an individual contributor with limited responsibilities to a full team member, with the goal that children "learn to learn" through play and become familiar with the structure of future learning.
Today is the first day of school for my daughter. I learned a lot throughout the Einschulung process (from the registration/enrolment rules & processes, receiving the checklist from the school, the welcome email, the necessary follow-up emails/letters, the in-person meeting for parents, the get-to-know-you events for parents and kids attending the same school, the school tour, the fun activities and resources, the mode & venue for the organizing Einschulung day, creating an overall "wow factor"). Overall, it was a wonderful experience and we thank everyone involved.
My colleagues who helped us choose the right school bag/Schulranzen (considering ergonomics, safety, and comfort), Neighbours who helped us make school Cone/ Scultüte and bake Einschulung Torte and the parents of the children of group (WhatsApp group) who kept us updated, and family, friends, and my clients for their gifts, warm wishes, and love.
