When family separation happens, placing children with relatives or close kin is the preferred choice. #Kinship foster homes offer an environment that mirrors children's family of origin, which promotes stability during a challenging time. Here are some recommendations from our new policy brief that could help #ChildWelfare jurisdictions better resource kinship families: https://lnkd.in/g5mRbVki 1️⃣ Increase access to resources by reducing obstacles for kinship families to become licensed foster parents 2️⃣ Formalize kinship families as the priority option when making placement decisions 3️⃣ Expand existing policies to include fictive kin

Kinship Care, where children are placed in the care of relatives or close family friends, often proves to be a more stable and nurturing option compared to placement with non-relatives. 💭 This arrangement helps preserve the child's sense of continuity and belonging, as they are able to maintain strong ties to their family's cultural and familial traditions. 🙏 Such familiarity is crucial, as it helps the child retain a sense of identity and personal history, which is often disrupted in the Foster Care System. 🏡 #LoftusVergariAndAssociates #LVA #Kinship #FAQs #Benefits #Family #KinshipQuestions

There are over 162,000 children currently being brought up in kinship care in England and Wales. This is twice the number being fostered. Just over half of kinship carers are grandparents, but they can also be aunts, uncles, older siblings, other relatives or family friends. With more children coming into care, more foster parents are needed. Especially since with larger sibling groups, it’s not always possible for kinship carers to take all the siblings. This means siblings are being separated. Having more foster parents - able to look after siblings - could make a real difference. Find out how you could protect a sibling group by providing foster care: call 0330 311 2845 or email foster@rainbowfostering.co.uk If you care...foster care! #foster #fostercare #fosterparents #fosteringawareness #siblings
