As Americans, we all share a responsibility to strengthen our democracy. That's why Howie Chen, Eli Castrejon and I have been hard at work building an app that we believe can make a real difference. Our mobile app will allow authenticated voters to anonymously log their preferences on political issues and upcoming bills. By aggregating this data at the district, state, and national level, and making it free to the public, we hope to guide lawmakers on what legislation to write, and how they should vote on the floor. As we approach our launch, we're excited to show potential investors that there is a demand for a non-toxic, non-partisan source of truth on authenticated voters' preferences. Following on from Fridays post, other practical actions to take with positive ripple effects: Dissatisfaction with a system can be handled in a few different ways. If a service or product doesn't deliver on its promises, isn't effective or requires a different approach, the constructive thing to do is contact the company and get a better product or service via user feedback. Voting is one of the ways that we can provide user feedback on a local, regional and national level. Check the register and make sure that you're registered to vote 🗳 https://lnkd.in/eG6e583X Encourage your friends, parents, neighbours, work mates, and particularly young people to check the register and ensure that they can vote too. Here's the thing, voting requires: ➡️ a consistent postal address ➡️ literacy ➡️ access to the polling station ➡️ access into and around the polling station ➡️ a feeling of safety ➡️ trust that democracy actually works and that your voice matters ➡️ knowing which elections you're entitled to vote on The above points bring to mind further actions that can be done, but I'll leave it there for now.

Among the many interesting things about being a dual-Australian/US citizen and political scientist is the lived experience of turning out to vote. Australia: enrolment and turnout is compulsory, but only for a few years once you are residing overseas, in which case you are disenfranchised until re-establishing Australian residence. US: enrolment and turnout is voluntary; you can stay on the roll at your last registered US address indefinitely. Today I voted in the California primary, by fax, which only took 45 mins... (find email from California Sec of State, realise I need the email from Santa Clara Board of Elections, fill out ballot in a secure web app, put toner in printer, realise that Chrome is going to play better with the secure app then Safari, print, scan, re-authenticate myself to GoFax, buy $5 of fax credits, send...). As we'd say at Rochester, I clearly derive high psychic benefits from the act of voting... Or "high D" in pB + D > C.

A lot of harm to children in 2023, they say, was brought by these non-Muslim social networks. --------- At the Senate hearing, issues of child safety on the internet and the impact of social media on their mental state were examined. During the discussion, proposals were made to amend legislation to protect children. Key points: ✅ Senators are concerned about the impact of social media on children and call for legislative measures to protect their interests. ✅ All witnesses expressed their willingness to work with legislators to improve the safety of children in the online environment. ✅ Issues of child data safety were discussed, along with various proposals for amendments to existing legislation. ✅ Concerns were raised about the problem of child trafficking and insufficient timely response to requests for removing unwanted content. ✅ The importance of improving the platform to prevent potential crimes and increase user safety, especially for children, was emphasized. https://lnkd.in/dCtyCKs3
