METRICS If you’re in Supply Chain, Operations, or Manufacturing you have job responsibilities that can be quantified into numbers and/or dollars. So, if you have not done so already, I would suggest that you insert those metrics into your resume. SIGNING THE OFFER LETTER If you’ve received an Offer Letter, and it asks for your signature in 24-48 hours, you can usually request a few more days to sign. That’s important if you’re waiting to hear back on a potential Offer from another company. But, if the Offer Letter looks good and you want to sign, then why wait until the 11th hour when the Offer is about to expire. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AT THE HR/TALENT ACQUISITON PHONE SCREEN/INTERVIEW During your interview with the Hiring Manager, you can expect technical questions, and many may come from the Job Description. But, during an Interview/Phone Screen with HR or Talent Acquisition, in addition to some technical questions the focus may be upon the following competencies for cultural match and soft skills:  ·        TEAMWORK  ·        MANAGING CHANGE  ·        CONTINUOUS LEARNING  ·        DRIVE FOR RESULTS  ·        LEADING AND DEVELOPING TALENT So, before the phone screen/interview, it's a good idea to think about some examples you can provide with regard to the bullet points above. #manufacturing #operations #supplychain #interviewtips #hiring

SHOULD A CANDIDATE ASK QUESTIONS AT AN INTERVIEW Yes, I think it's very important that a candidate come to the interview prepared with questions about the job and the company. But, you also need to prepare thoroughly before the interview. So, don't ask questions that can be easily answered through a simple review of the company's website. You may also have some follow-up questions based upon what the interviewer has said. It's important to bear in mind the following:  1)     The Interviewer has probably described the company, the position, and asked you some targeted questions. And they’ve probably asked you at the end of the interview, if you have any questions for them. If you say NO, I don’t have any questions, there’s a good chance they’ll conclude that you’re not interested in the position.  2)     But assuming that you are interested in the position, there’s probably a lot of things that you’re wondering about, i.e. technical aspects of the role, career track, benefits, etc. So, if you really are interested and want to move forward in the process, you should definitely let them know that you’d like to learn more. #manufacturing #operations #supplychain #interviewtips #hiring

HOW IMPORTANT IS A STRONG LINKEDIN PROFILE TO YOUR JOB SEARCH Think of LinkedIn as today's version of a phone book. If you’re “unlisted”, and not on LinkedIn you’re invisible to Recruiters and Hiring Managers. In fact, even if the recruitment process started only with your resume, most Hiring Managers, HR, and Talent Acquisition will then look you up on LinkedIn. There’s an expression, “you’ve got to be in it to win it”, and that’s why you need to have a LinkedIn Profile. But a bare bones, no frills LinkedIn Profile, isn’t going to advance your career. Once on LinkedIn you need to have a strong Profile, which includes at the very least, a nice photo, and a short paragraph that provides details about your positions. #manufacturing #operations #supplychain #interviewtips #hiring

THE CAREER SNAPSHOT The introductory sentence or two at the top of your resume is your first impression. It’s a snapshot of your career. If you make a good impression in the first couple of sentences, you’ll create interest, and people will want to learn more. If not, they may move on to the next resume. So, be sure to make the intro short and punchy. In other words, who are you as a professional, and what are your key accomplishments. HOW TO HANDLE THE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT ON THE JOB DESCRIPTION Most Job Descriptions will specify how many years of experience are required. If you have those years of on-the-job work experience you’ve obviously met that requirement. But, if you’re a little bit short on years of experience, it’s possible that you might be able to fill that gap based on the following: Certifications, ex APICS, LSS, or Educational Background, ex MBA, PhD or Masters, (if only a Bachelors is actually required.) Of course, it’s always best to be a close fit to the Job Description, but sometimes education, certifications, or other relevant experience, might sometimes make up for slightly less experience. #manufacturing #operations #supplychain #jobsearchadvice #hiring

RESEARCH BEFORE THE INTERVIEW In addition to doing research about the company before the interview, it's also important to check out the LinkedIn Profiles of the people that you will be interviewing with. It might turn out that you went to the same school, grew up in the same town, or worked at the same company in the past. THE VALUE OF A RETAINED SEARCH This is often the best financial value for both employers and candidates. That sounds a little crazy, doesn’t it? Buy, here’s why. When an employer engages an Executive Recruiter on a Search Assignment for a Critical Hire, they will place a Deposit/Down Payment with the Recruiter/Search Consultant. At the conclusion of the Search, she will then credit back the Deposit and deduct it from the client's final invoice. So, there is no financial detriment to the Employer since the full fee remains the same after the Credit. It’s important to bear in mind that recruiting is both time and labor intensive. But, another benefit of Retained Searches is that they have the full attention of the Recruiter and rise to the top of their Recruit Calendar. So, if the Search is serious, and for a Critical Hire indispensable to the company, don’t you want that search to rise to the top of the Recruit Calendar? A Retained Search is also a huge benefit to the candidate, since by definition this is obviously a very serious search assignment, and the role is a top priority for the employer.
