📣 Our State of Conservation Technology 2023 report is live! This research delivers for the first time a three-year trends analysis of the tech for biodiversity and conservation space, tracking shifts in the usage and perceptions of current tools, end-user and developer constraints, and opportunities for advancement.
Here’s what you need to know:
1) Explore insights from our 3-year analysis in the interactive trends report: https://lnkd.in/g7QijTfk
2) Check out our highlights article covering 5 key findings from the research: https://lnkd.in/gyYxY4_Z
3) Help us continue this research by taking the 2023 survey and sharing it widely: https://lnkd.in/gkYinTfT
We found shifts in perceptions of the highest potential technologies, deeper insights into the extent to which women and people in countries in developing economies face disproportionate barriers to engagement, and measurable impacts of WILDLABS membership on reducing constraints, among other trends. By uncovering these shifts and stabilizing patterns across the community over time, we're aiming to amplify a united voice to drive progress toward impactful solutions for the planet.
The State of Conservation Tech research is an ongoing project that is a true collaboration between our team and the global conservation and biodiversity technology community, which we depend on to build this unique longitudinal data set. We hope it continues to provide useful insights and a novel evidence base to support efforts across the sector. Please help us share it far and wide, and support the continuation of the research by taking the 2023 survey if you use and/or develop these tools. Thank you!
Also, a huge shout out to all of our partners and collaborators on this work, including Jen Solomon at Colorado State University who has supported it from its inception, and Fanni Várhelyi who conducted all of the analyses and built the report during her internship with us hosted by World Wildlife Fund.

Yesterday was International Day of Plant Health 🌱
To emphasise the importance of plant health and ecology, we would like to give Eylül Umay Külah a chance to speak. She completed an internship at the GRASSWORKS project in Germany with the help of IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience), for which the DAAD is responsible in Germany. A rewarding experience:
“Being involved in GRASSWORKS for my IAESTE internship has been an enlightening adventure into the world of grassland restoration in Germany. From hands-on fieldwork to active participation in projects, I have been privileged to find myself in understanding the crucial role healthy grasslands play in supporting biodiversity and ecosystem functions. This experience has enriched my understanding of the diverse factors influencing biodiversity restoration and landscape functionality.
GRASSWORKS hasn’t just equipped me with practical skills but has also encouraged a deep sense of purpose and dedication to safeguarding our natural environments and promoting biodiversity conservation. Completing my internship with a DAAD scholarship at the institute has been a remarkable and unforgettable journey, a fulfilling internship that goes beyond tasks and skills; it’s about self-discovery, growth, and transformation. Additionally, collaborating with experts at Leuphana Universität Lüneburg's Institute of Ecology, particularly my supervisor Alina Twerski, has been pivotal in broadening my horizons.
I believe that if we prioritize protecting plant health and understand how crucial it is for life on Earth, we can create a future where grasslands thrive. These healthy ecosystems will not only help diverse wildlife but also benefit communities worldwide.”

Hello! My name’s Mason, an undergraduate at Oregon State University. This summer I’m working with Solid Carbon, a company that is working to produce an admixture that sequesters carbon into concrete. To do that we turn forestry waste into solid carbon, biochar, through a process called pyrolysis. The carbon sequestered in concrete would otherwise be burned and let back into the atmosphere.

🌿🌎 A Decade of Discovery at EcoPlanetFarm: Unveiling Nature’s Harmony 🌱🔬
After a remarkable journey spanning 10 years, living and breathing within the ecosystem of EcoPlanetFarm, I am thrilled to share insights from my immersive study. My focus: understanding the intricate synergy between pests, vegetation, orchards, weeds, soil, and plant aromas in a completely natural setting.
🌟 Living Laboratory: By residing 24x7 in this diverse ecosystem, I've witnessed firsthand how natural processes unfold without any external inputs. This unique approach has allowed me to observe subtle interactions often overlooked in conventional studies.
🐜 Pest Dynamics: My observations have shed light on the natural pest management strategies employed by the ecosystem. Understanding how pest populations are regulated by their natural predators has been a key aspect of my research.
🌳 Orchard Interactions: The orchard has been a focal point in studying biodiversity and the relationships between different plant species. The natural coexistence and competition among these species have provided valuable insights into sustainable orchard management.
🌾 Weed Wisdom: Weeds, often seen as nuisances, play a crucial role in this ecosystem. My study highlights their importance in soil health and as a part of the ecological balance.
🌱 Soil Secrets: Soil health has emerged as a fundamental aspect of my research. The rich, living soil here is a testament to the benefits of organic matter and microorganisms in supporting plant life.
🌺 Aromatic Insights: The aromatic profiles of plants have unveiled fascinating aspects of plant communication and their impact on pest behavior and plant health.
🔬 Towards a Sustainable Future: This decade-long journey has not only been a personal blessing but also a scientific endeavor towards understanding and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. My experiences here are a testament to the potential of natural, self-sustaining ecosystems.
As I continue to unravel the mysteries of this synergy, I am filled with hope and excitement for the future of sustainable agriculture. Stay tuned for more insights and discoveries from the heart of EcoPlanetFarm!

GTC 360° Advisors is proud to be a member of the Coalition of Food Security (CFS), an initiative funded by Climate Smart Commodities USDA grant to work with underserved farmers on developing a pilot marketplace for climate smart farming using Ponix's innovative hydroponic vertical farms. As part of the grant, GTC 360° Advisors will lead the development and rollout of new carbon credit methodology for hydroponic lettuce in collaboration with the HBCU University of the District of Columbia. This new methodology will allow farmers across the country - and around the world - to receive and sell carbon credits for their climate smart practices when growing indoor hydroponic produce.
The CFS team will recruit and train 24 minority-owned landowners and underserved farmers in Georgia on how to use and adopt Ponix’s tech-enabled hardware and software solutions. Additionally, CFS is providing internships to HBCU students and agribusiness opportunities.
Together, we are taking a bite out of food insecurity.

Yesterday Jamie Baldridge and I spent the day at Gosforth Nature Reserve with Climate Action North completing a day's training on Rewildling: Nature & Us as we think about our wild spaces at Quorum Park
I'll be honest, everything I've done on biodiversity and rewilding has been very 'take a punt and see what happens' which isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world, but learning the theory and natural processes behind this really helps put the process into a strategic plan.
I really enjoyed the reflections on people and how people are very much in this rewilding narrative. Looking at how everyone benefits from spaces with more Nature and we're all learning to accept a bit of scruffination in exchange for space full of life and colour and active ecosystems.
As someone with a bit of rewilding experience, I wasn't sure what my big takeaway would be, but it was definitely the idea of rewilded spaces not just being a space crammed with wildflowers (while lovely to look at) but creating a space where natural processes have room to occur, cycles can be completed and natural ebbs and flows of activity supported, it's totally changed how I think about our spaces and it's made me appreciate for the first time, the real responsibility we have as a team lucky enough to have small plots of land at our disposal.
Did I mention it's CPD accredited, awesome! Thanks so much Phil Macari and Sharon Lashley DipRSA Env, DipDEA
Extra excited to see Cobalt Park in attendance too, proof North Tyneside is leading the field in Place Making!
