The Association of Rooftop & Airspace Development is a proud new member of the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) and UN Environment Programme. Join us to work towards a zero-emission, efficient, and resilient buildings and construction sector. The buildings and construction sector is not on track to decarbonize by 2050. The sector’s operational CO2 emissions and energy use have reached an all-time high, exceeding pre-pandemic peaks. In 2021, buildings and construction accounted for about 37% of energy and process-related CO2 emissions and over 34% of energy demand globally. Concrete actions are needed now. Locally adapted sustainable design, construction practices and materials, present opportunities for rapidly growing housing demand on the Australian continent and around the world. Governments must multiply policy commitments, increase investments, and implement roadmaps toward, zero-emission, efficient and resilient buildings, and construction sectors. Construction industries and architects must adopt sustainable building materials and practices. All stakeholders in the building sector value chain have a critical role to play in constructing our shared sustainable future. #airspace #lowcarbonfootprint

Upgrading the Trans-Canada Highway through The Kicking Horse Canyon came with extraordinary challenges: rockslides, vertical terrain, and avalanches. WSP in the U.S., as the project’s Owner’s Engineer, helped the Province of British Columbia navigate this tricky terrain and create a safer, more efficient route through the Rocky Mountains. Our team carefully crafted solutions to prevent rockfall and avalanche impact by shifting alignments of 13 curves and creating new bridges that allowed materials to flow underneath it. Retaining walls and rock catchment ditches also enhanced road safety. WSP’s global bridge practice specializes in all aspects of bridge design and construction and is experienced in many modes of procurement, including conventional Design-Build and Public-Private Partnerships to more recent Progressive DBs and Alliance Models. We deliver financeable projects that meet stakeholders’ needs by establishing realistic budgets, controlling costs, and keeping projects on schedule. 🌟 Excited to share a remarkable case study showcasing innovative infrastructure solutions! 🚧 In a challenging road widening project along the scenic A72 road in Peebles, Scotland, our team tackled multiple engineering hurdles head-on. The narrow road, coupled with a weakened verge and ongoing traffic congestion, demanded a robust solution. 🛠 Engineering Challenge: The project required widening the road by approximately 3 meters, replacing existing walls, and ensuring safety standards compliance. However, steep slopes and limited space posed significant challenges. 💡 Maccaferri Solution: Working in close collaboration with MHB Consultants, we engineered a cutting-edge hybrid reinforced soil structure. The solution, standing at 6 meters tall and stretching 150 meters along the River Tweed, incorporated Maccaferri’s Terramesh System. This innovative approach not only retained the highway but also minimized environmental impact. 🤝 Collaborative Effort: Our partnership with Albion Drilling and the Scottish Borders Council's environmental clerk of works ensured a comprehensive approach. From design to construction, every step was meticulously monitored to mitigate environmental concerns. 🏗 Result: The £2.2 million project was successfully completed in 10 months, culminating in a widened highway that facilitates smooth traffic flow. Today, road users enjoy a safer and more efficient commute, thanks to the implementation of the Terramesh System. At Maccaferri, we're committed to delivering sustainable infrastructure solutions that address complex challenges while preserving the environment. This project stands as a testament to our dedication to innovation and collaboration. 💪 #Infrastructure #EngineeringExcellence #TerrameshSystem #CaseStudy #Sustainability #construction

Why do we need to talk about clean construction? Roughly 60% of buildings that will exist in 2050 are yet to be built. This means constructing a city the size of Copenhagen (1.5 million people) per week until 2050. Some of the most effective ways to lower the embodied carbon of buildings and the emissions on construction sites have been explored in the recent C40 Cities report: Buildings and Infrastructure Consumption Emissions in Focus.

Senior Building Systems Integration Consultant | Intelligent Building Strategy, Design, Delivery and Intelligence for smarter, sustainable and energy efficient places
Had a great discussion yesterday with George and Shadan at UK Construction Week about how #data #driven #smart #cities can serve #communities, with great questions from the audience Thanks everyone for joining ! My key takeaways: • Prioritize initiatives beyond profit-driven motives and consider the pillars of people and sustainable places • Interoperability of digital twins, metadata models, and information systems are crucial to ensure connection • Emphasize open, high-quality data governed by protection and compliance frameworks. • A Smart City shall prioritise tech to serve citizens’ experience, not the other way around • Cultivate digital maturity for better places. Let’s all play our part. For anyone interested to learn more, I would highly recommend to read the Sustainable Cities Index of 2022 by Arcadis, a great document that my colleagues at Arcadis have populated, looking at Prosperity in Cities beyond Profit https://lnkd.in/eFAF7fAv #smartcities #smartbuildings #data #communities #arcadis #UKCW
It's Day 1 of UK Construction Week, and we've just wrapped up our first panel at the Digital Construction Hub, featuring Georgios Grigoriou, Senior Building Systems Integration Consultant at Arcadis, George Floros MSc., MEng., Head of GIS at Skanska, and Shadan Dwairi-Wigley, Senior BIM & Digital Engineering Consultant at Costain Group PLC. The panel delved into the pressing issue of the skills gap and explored the intricate technology behind smart buildings. They emphasised the crucial role of seamless collaboration among various services for the realisation of smart cities. Key takeaways included the necessity for educational initiatives, fostering collaboration across different sectors, and actively engaging tech-savvy individuals. The vision of inhabiting futuristic smart cities in the UK is indeed within reach, but it hinges upon these vital elements. Our buzzing stage is not one to miss - every session so far has been 'standing room only', and the audience has been lively with many questions posed to our expert speakers. Register and find out more about the programme here: https://lnkd.in/e5AzMUUi #UKCW #ukconstructionweek #ukconstruction #construction #smartcities
