Hoover TecTalk Tuesday here, we get a lot of questions about PyroGuard™ and ExteriorFireX™ and which product is appropriate for which application? A: An interior application includes all areas within a structure that are behind the weather-resistant barrier, such as exterior wall sheathing and framing protected by the envelope. These interior materials are treated with PyroGuard™. Conversely, exterior applications, like siding, roof covering, or decking permanently exposed to moisture, are treated with ExteriorFireX™. The key difference is that exterior FRTW must meet the weathering requirements defined by the code. We're back with with TecTalk Tuesday! Today we answer "Can you treat products other than lumber or plywood?" A: While most wood products can be treated, the focus is on frequently used construction materials such as construction-grade softwood lumber and plywood, including Douglas fir, Southern Pine, Spruce-Pine-Fir, Western Red Cedar, and Redwood. These materials, along with some engineered wood products like glulam and laminated veneer lumber, are commonly treated with fire retardants, with the latter now referenced in the 2024 building code under ASTM standards Are you enjoying what you're learning? Drop us a comment below and let us know what you'd like us to answer next! As always, visit our website at frtw.com to learn more, and check back next week for another TecTalk! . . . #FRTW #hoovertectalk #FAQ #education #learning #lumber #construction
