DYK the significance of the Disability Pride Flag? Our slider below unpacks the meaning for you & more... Why is this important to understand? B/c its Disability Pride Month and we all have a responsibility to combat ableism. ❗ Ableism - is a form of discrimination that places value on certain abilities over others. It means that bodies and minds are held to a standard based on what is considered "normal" or "able" in society. 💡 Because of ableism, people with disabilities are often isolated, less likely to be able to participate in community activities, and experience a myriad of barriers limiting their access to social, work and community activities. 💡 This can result in fewer job opportunities, lower average incomes, higher poverty rates and financial instability. 📣 To honour Disability Pride, I encourage you to reframe your thinking about Disability. Disability IS diversity. 🤝 Consider the Social Model of Disability which regards disability as resulting from external factors like the environmental barriers and discriminatory attitudes. i.e., People with disabilities are only disabled by the world in which they live in which was not designed to work for them. This changes our thinking and reinforces that it is all of our responsibility and within our power, to build equity and accessibility in our workplaces & beyond. #DisabilityPrideMonth #SocialModelofDisability #DisabilityInclusion #Disability #Equity #Belonging #Inclusion
Swipe to learn about the significance behind the Disability Pride Flag, its history, and how each colour represents different aspects of the disability community. Designed by Ann Magill in 2019 and updated in 2021 for better accessibility, this flag symbolizes solidarity, pride, and the diverse experiences of disabled individuals. Let's educate, amplify, and support the voices and organizations within the disability community for Disability Pride Month and beyond. #DisabilityPride

Accessibility imperative! As we mark the Blindness Awareness Week, let's embrace the diversity of abilities and perspectives within our communities. As Helen Keller, author and disability rights advocate once said, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” We, at Project Z, are aiming to create an inclusive community, where every voice is not just heard, but actively sought out and respected at every stage of the decision-making process. How to foster an all-inclusive community? 💡Prioritise empathy 💡Embrace unique perspectives 💡Design spaces that are accessible to all 💡Create communities where diversity blossoms As we champion inclusivity, let's ensure that persons with disabilities (PWD) feel safe, respected, and empowered.

Wish we had leadership like #NYCMayor ERIC ADAMS in California. Gov. Gavin Newsom is not a champion of the disability community. He vetos bills that would protect disability rights including coverage for the most critically medically fragile children in California. He vetoed SB247 in 2021, which would have provided for California's sickest and most in need medically complex children. He has done nothing to update the California Childrens' Services #CCS program and has done everything in his power to work towards defunding programs for the sickest kids in the state. He refuses to adequately fund existing entitlement health programs and Adult Day health as well as the Home and Community Based Alternatives program. As a result, there will be fewer hospital beds for communicable disease treatment and emergency services because all the kids who could be cared for at home will be taking those beds, including my daughter! #disabilitypridemonth #disabilityinclusion #equityandinclusion #wheelchairlife #wheelchair #advocacy #advocacymatters #disabilitylife #disabilityawareness #economics #economicdevelopment #economy #sustainability #adultdaycare #adultcare #healthcareinnovation #healthawareness #healthcare #iloveadhc #caregiversupport #medicaid #medicaidplanning #savemedicaid #health
As the leading national disability rights organization to help change minds, practice, and policy, we applaud the NYC Office of the Mayor's (Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities) new initiative, investing $8.8 million for over 2,500 people in New York City with #disabilities to advance their careers. New York City serves as a model to bring together business, government, and civic leaders to usher in much needed progress and change. Congratulations to Christina Curry, Commissioner for People with Disabilities, to lead the charge. https://lnkd.in/gd6J_Xkx

We believe the government’s newly published Disability Action Plan has missed the opportunity to tackle the major issues facing young people with disabilities and their families. While we welcome the government’s commitment to consult with people with disabilities about the policies that impact their lives, it is disappointing that there are not more actions that will address the fundamental issues of support, inclusion and valuing people with disabilities across society. July is Disability Pride Month, a time to honor diverse experiences and promote the rights, independence, and visibility of individuals with disabilities. Disability Pride means embracing one's full identity, including disabilities, and it holds different meanings for everyone. The spectrum of disability is intersectional and diverse, and we celebrate and recognize this in our work with clients both in therapy and beyond. Many people with disabilities experience ableism—behaviors, practices, norms, laws, and institutions that assume people with disabilities are inherently less capable and valuable. Ableism leads to inaccessible and exclusive environments. We support our clients in overcoming ableism and discrimination, empowering them to view their disability as an integral aspect of their unique beauty, identity, and value. #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityAwareness #InclusiveTherapy #MentalHealthMatters #Empowerment #AbleismAwareness #Intersectionality #TherapistsForChange #CelebrateDifferences #DisabilityAdvocacy #AccessibilityForAll #HolisticWellBeing #TherapyWorks #StrengthInDiversity #DisabilityEmpowerment #BeauregardCreativeArtsTherapy
