One thing about the BAD BITCH EMPIRE 👑 We don't focus how unlikely or hard it is to get a seat at the table as a female founder or female in venture capital - we focus on building our own table, and moving in empowerment. Did you know that in Lisa's last Fundraising Bootcamp for female founders, 10 out of 12 female founders successfully completed their fundraise for their early-stage startup? We could focus on the overall statistic of 2-4% of women who secure venture capital for their business... Or we can focus on the over 80% of female founders at OUR table who secured the bag. This number is not an accident. Competition is good in a race, in the Olympics, in a spelling bee... you know - all the things where a clear winner is the goal. Where competition is not good - in my opinion - is in something where a rising tide lifts all boats (an overused phrase, I know, but it paints the perfect picture). Such is the case with creating opportunity for women - to have a seat at the table, to raise necessary funds, to use their voices, to bring their dream to life, etc. Over the last several weeks, stacey and I have connected with dynamic women who are leading the charge in creating lasting change (talking about you, Flossie Hall, Catherine Gray, Allison Byers, Diane Sears, Cindy Chace, Dora Din Whittley, Tracy Holland, Dr. Julie Ducharme, Katie Dunn, Rebecca Heiss, PhD (she/her), Lorine Pendleton and so many others). And not one of them - not one of them! - have we felt a competitive spirit from... like *their* program is the end all be all. While each woman is irrefutably a powerhouse in her own right, they are strong enough to recognize that not one program - read that again... not one program has it all figured out. That's why we need the collective whole! Stace and I firmly believe there is enough opportunity for everyone to help make change happen. One of the best response to my email regarding investment in female funding has been from one of my customer who said. “Ruby, I am a mom of 3 daughter and since they have started using WUKA, it has changed their and my life. I don’t have much money put aside but if you are ever doing a crowd funding, I will put at least £1000 in the name of my 3 daughter”.. I cried when I read this email. There are so many women who wants to invest, but not sure where, how or don’t understand the mechanic of return on investment. Because women might perceive investing in business as a high risk. In the US in 2022, startups with all-women teams received 1.9% (or around $4.5 billion) out of around the $238.3 billion in venture capital allocated, Investing in women is still perceived as high-risk. So I would love to share my story of starting my business and my relationship with the money.
