🤩🤝We've prioritized linking arms with our healthcare workforce to equip these important community leaders with the science and tools to guide their patient communities in eating more plants and for personal habit change. While many of the leading causes of death and disability in our community are largely lifestyle-related, doctors receive less than 1% of their medical training in nutrition. It's time to equip our healthcare workforce and community members with essential tools to lead with prevention and effective lifestyle interventions. When you support our work, you’re helping us to invest in our local healthcare partners by expanding our healthcare training programs. Our healthcare partners are quickly growing and in 2023 we provided training opportunities and resources to members of our local Promotores community, the community health team at Sansum Diabetes Research Institute, and clinicians at the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics. There's an exciting readiness to learn and educate and here's some of what we've heard back: 🍓Experienced health benefits from metabolic, to weight improvements, to overall feeling great 🥦Excitement about grocery cost savings 🍉Surprise at how simple, enjoyable and familiar meals can still be swapping in more plants 🍊Pride in feeling like they can make a meaningful difference sharing their experience and knowledge 🌽Deepened connection to cultural foods and roots 🥕Curiosity about the lack of nutrition training for healthcare providers 🍎Enthusiasm in new opportunities and tools to lower risk, improve, and potentially reverse conditions like type 2 diabetes where much focus has traditionally been on disease management and genetics Follow the link to learn how you can help us expand healthcare training and resources across Santa Barbara County! https://lnkd.in/d8PDXkqT Photo Credit: Oscar Gutierrez #RootedSantaBarbara #RootedSBC #PlantBasedEating #Community #Health #PlantBase #SantaBarbara #FruitsAndVeggies #FiberFocusMonth #Fiber #January #FoodbankSBC #PreventativeHealth

Bacterial contamination of drinking water with Pseudomonas aeruginosa was recently detected in the University Hospital Frankfurt a. M. This can cause wound and urinary tract infections, pneumonia and blood poisoning in immunocompromised persons, but did not yet in Frankfurt. It is very likely that the contamination was caused by external circumstances; Pseudomonas aeruginosa probably entered the drinking water installation of the buildings from the public water supply. Why this is not an isolated case and how especially sensitive places like hospitals or nursing homes can ensure their drinking water hygiene, you can read in my current blog article. https://lnkd.in/ewsmTGrn #seccua #mannhummel #drinkingwater #hygiene #hospitals #pseudomonas #uniklinikfrankfurt

Hello LinkedIn community! The middle of the week is here, and that's a great reason to keep pushing forward. Have a productive and successful Wednesday, everyone! 🌞💼💪 #WednesdayMotivation #HumpDay #LinkedInCommunity 🌱🌡️Decommissioning Desflurane: A Vital Step Towards a Greener NHS🌱🌡️ The NHS is deeply dedicated to its groundbreaking mission to achieve net zero carbon emissions and to contribute significantly to reducing the health impacts of climate change. To realize this ambition, it is essential to address the emissions associated with the use of anaesthetic and analgesic practices, which currently account for 2% of the NHS's carbon footprint. Desflurane, a common volatile anaesthetic used during surgeries, serves as a starting point for these efforts. Although it provides a safe way to sedate patients, it possesses a global warming potential that is 2,500 times higher than that of carbon dioxide. The positive news is that there are safer and more environmentally friendly alternatives available. These include alternative general anaesthetic gases and techniques, such as regional anaesthesia. In collaboration with the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists, NHS England has made a significant announcement. They have outlined a plan to phase out the use of desflurane by early 2024, restricting its use to only the most exceptional clinical circumstances. This move will result in a substantial reduction in harmful emissions, approximately equivalent to 40 kilotonnes of carbon each year, which is comparable to the annual energy needs of 11,000 homes. Over the course of a decade, the reduction in emissions resulting from the elimination of desflurane will be equivalent to the energy required to power every home in Plymouth for a year. This announcement represents a pivotal moment and conveys a strong message to the healthcare community. It underscores the NHS's steadfast commitment to steering toward a net-zero health service, marking a significant stride toward a more sustainable future and a healthier planet. #SustainableNHS #ClimateAction #GreenHealthcare #NetZeroAmbition #AnaestheticChange #EcoFriendlyMedicine #CarbonFootprintReduction #DesfluraneDecommission #EnvironmentalHealth #HealthcareInnovation For more information: https://lnkd.in/eYq-qxCd
