At the heart of national swimmer Quah Ting Wen's Paris Olympic saga is rejection. Rejection is especially painful when you are led to believe you are accepted, after doing all you can to make the cut, only to have the rug pulled under your feet by powers beyond your control. "It is the hardest setback in my career, " Quah admits. I reckon what makes this so hard for her is the reminder that life is unfair and there is nothing you can do to reverse the outcome. #psychology #mentalhealth #mentalillness #psychotherapy #counseling #psychologyresearch #psychologist #wellness #selfcare #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillness #mentalhealthmatters #PTSD #OCD #depression #anxiety

Besides the interesting conversations Payson usually has on his podcast The Adventure Stache, I really loved this episode with world class athlete Sam Gaze, and the openness with which he talks about his mental health struggles. Seeing these superhumans take performance to the next level makes it too easy to forget they are still human beings with everything that comes with it. https://lnkd.in/dhYb2Wy6

I highly recommend the two-part Netflix documentary on Simone Biles, "Simone Biles Rising," to my fellow teachers, parents, students, and educators for the summer. The documentary sheds light on Simone's decision to prioritize her mental health and step back from the Olympics, showcasing her inspiring journey post that decision. It serves as a crucial reminder of the significance of self-care, especially when supporting students post-COVID-19 challenges. As educators shaping Generation Alpha, watching this documentary can offer valuable insights into how we approach and support our students and children of this generation. Let's learn from Simone's story and continue to prioritize mental health in our roles. Remember, Netflix is not paying me for this post; I simply aim to inspire others in our community. Watch the documentary on Netflix for a dose of inspiration on prioritizing mental health in our roles as educators. Let's continue to support our students and children effectively. #SimoneBiles #MentalHealthAwareness #Educators #Teachers #Parents #Inspiration Link to the full article - (https://lnkd.in/ej67i-35)

So true. If you ignore your mental health while engaged in physical training, your body will eventually stop cooperating. Mental training is not a replacement for physical training, but the best physical training includes mental training. #sportpsychology #mentalhealth #mentalperformance #therapy

You know, when I first started this journey of using exercise to manage my PTSD, I had no idea how powerful it could be. I remember feeling so overwhelmed and helpless, like the symptoms were controlling every aspect of my life. But then I made a decision: I was going to take back control, one day at a time. It started with just a few minutes on the rowing machine, but gradually, I worked my way up to a full hour. And let me tell you, the difference it's made has been incredible. Not only do I feel stronger and more energized, but my mind feels clearer too. It's like the physical act of pushing myself helps me process and release all the pent-up emotions and stress that come with PTSD. Of course, it's not just about the exercise – the medication from the VA has been a crucial part of my treatment plan too. But I've found that the combination of consistent workouts and the right meds has been the key to unlocking a better quality of life for me. I won't lie, there are still tough days. Days when the memories feel too heavy, or the anxiety feels like it's going to swallow me whole. But on those days, I remind myself of how far I've come. I think about the strength and resilience I've built through every workout, every bead of sweat, every push to keep going. And that's what I want to share with anyone else out there who's struggling with PTSD – the power of persistence, discipline, and self-care. It's not a magic cure, but it's a way to take back some control and find a path forward. So, if you're feeling lost or overwhelmed, just start small. Show up for yourself, even if it's just for a few minutes a day. Trust me, it adds up. And remember, you're not alone in this fight. There's a whole community of us out here, cheering you on and ready to support you every step of the way. So, keep pushing, keep believing in yourself, and never give up hope for a better tomorrow.
