"ACEs science can prevent school shootings; first people have to learn about ACEs science." Jane Stevens, ACEsConnection
This is a joke. As long as for-profit medical care companies continue paying CEOs exorbitant salaries and bonuses (example: in N.C. one CEO is paid more than 140x average pay of a nurse in the state) the idea of even having one minute to celebrate “workforce wellness” is a joke. https://lnkd.in/gwEArD6T Our nation has enabled and empowered ungodly and inhumane inequity that fosters child abuse and neglect and keeps people fearful of leaving jobs that are truly corporate hellscapes. The loss of interest in labor unions to help fight this inequity is disturbing. Highly recommend that on this day healthcare workers check out Hamilton Nolan ‘s book The Hammer https://lnkd.in/gSR94WbG Unless and until corporate and CEO greed is squashed, shareholders’ well-being is not put above the well-being of people doing the work that earns them the dividends, corporate profits are funneled back into the companies for worker wage increases and improvements in worker conditions, our national trends in declining mental and physical health will continue. The federal minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour. AND HOUR. It’s been stuck there for almost 15 years. What is Congress thinking by NOT changing this right now? Greed, fear, lobbyists, and a workforce so slammed by the daily demands of living it cannot see its collective power keep this downward spiral of the spirit rolling. People finding a moment’s pleasure in a drink, a toke, a funny TV show, or a bite of chemical-laden fake food are kept going despite the downward grind of not being able to fight their way out of student loan payments to own homes, the cost of rents and childcare keeping them stuck in high-stress jobs. Meanwhile healthcare CEOs trot out little panaceas like this PR hoax about “well-being day”. The patient is the American Workforce. The disease is fear. The cause is corporate greed. The cure is courage to withhold labor if necessary for the kind of wages and benefits other industrialized nations offer: - Paid family leave - Universal health insurance - Sick pay - Sick leave - State and employer supported child care We keep working harder for less while folks at the top work less for more. THAT is a prescription for hopelessness, not wellness. How do we fix that? President at The Jayne Koskinas Ted Giovanis Foundation and TeamTGM | Author of "Beyond Fear" & “Focus Forward"
Have you ever faced a challenge so complex, it seemed almost insurmountable? In my years working within the Washington scene, particularly with the National Association of Behavioral Healthcare I encountered such a challenge during the implementation of the Inpatient Prospective Payment System for Psychiatric hospitals in 1999. This new system transitioned payments from a cost-based model to a prospective rate system, tailored to patient types and conditions. It was a drastic change and as a consultant developing the model The stakes were high. This involved not just constructing the model But ensuring it was understood and applicable across different geographical locations, affecting numerous hospitals in varied ways. The lesson here is significant. Embracing complexity can lead to transformative outcomes. By working closely with industry leaders and educating them through this transition We achieved the successful implementation of a system that continues to serve well today. Remember, the most daunting challenges often lead to the most gratifying successes. Don't shy away from tackling them head-on. #HealthcareInnovation #LeadershipInAction #SystemTransformation #StrategicConsulting

Great article in recent NEJM on the need to think about care more holistically--social and medical services are delivered through one team. I love the concept of clinicians being "street-level bureaucrats" who can advocate for patients based on their unique social needs. Most clinicians (mainly PCPs) are too busy and burned out to do this themselves. It takes a village--or actually a team--to solve some of the really tough situations. At MedZed we deliver longitudinal team-based care that integrates medical and social services for individuals with very challenging situations. We have so many "wow" moments when things really turn around for our patients. So gratifying. Lives brought back from the brink of disaster. And clinicians energized about their work.

Incoming DrPH Student at Morgan State University Trinidad-Born Workplace Wellness & Public Health Specialist | 🏥 Enhancing Employee Health Standards at Northwell Health
As we observe Doctors' Day, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the remarkable physicians in our network and beyond and a special shoutout to my Northwell Health Physicians past current and new. Your dedication, compassion, and tireless efforts to heal and help are truly inspirational. Today is a day to celebrate your achievements and the profound impact you have on the lives of your patients and the communities you serve. However, it is also a moment for us to reflect on the significant challenges that physicians face. From the high stress and burnout rates to the alarming instances of mental health struggles and suicide within the medical community, the journey of a doctor is fraught with challenges that demand our attention and action. These issues underscore the importance of supporting our healthcare professionals, not just in words but through meaningful actions that address these critical concerns.Furthermore, we must acknowledge and confront the additional obstacles faced by physicians of color. Racial disparities and discrimination within the healthcare system not only affect patient care but also place an undue burden on these professionals daily. It's imperative that we work together to create a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive environment for all physicians, regardless of their background.Today, let's celebrate the incredible contributions of our doctors, while also committing to listen, support, and advocate for the well-being of all physicians. Let's ensure that the conversation around these important #DoctorsDay, #HealthcareHeroes, #PhysicianWellbeing, #EndBurnout, #MentalHealthMatters, #DiversityInMedicine, #PhysiciansOfColor, #SupportOurDoctors, #HealthcareEquity #ThankADoctor #employeewellness #workplacewellbeing
