I was once a person that didn’t grasp the benefit of investing in yourself outside of the “normal” routes one could take. You don’t even need to be well rounded. Just bring more than one option, one area of expertise or experience, even one well thought out opinion and you have already separated yourself from 50 to 75% of your peers from what I have seen over the last decade. Too many I have seen with an attitude of “this is my job which means this is my life but I have a cat at home and I watch TikTok videos so it isn’t that bad.” Nothing against cats, I could have used dog, fish, wild squirrel that lives in the tree but is like a pet. With me the major barrier I had to overcome was using my resources, time and/or money, to pay for investing in myself. Believe me people, it will be the best time and/or money you spend this year. If you look back and you are doing the same thing you did last month, last year, the last decade and it isn’t getting you to where you want to be what do you have to lose by spending 12 hours next month and $1,000 paying someone to show you how to get to where you want to be? You have nothing to lose because trust me, another decade from that $1,000 will not be missed one way or another, and those TikTok videos will still be online for you to see. Unless the government actually bans TikTok but then your regular way of life would have to change anyway, start watching YouTube or something. My point is if you are still reading, take the plunge. I did and this month I have a more positive outlook for the future based off the self improvement I took last month. Next month I hope to take another path in self improvement so that in August I will exponentially be feeling better about the future. That’s how it works but you got to take that first leap of faith. On the surface, everyone on LinkedIn looks like a talking head. You may see me as: - Jonny who can take your personality and put it on video. - Jonny who can start or optimise your business YouTube. - Jonny who can get your business views and clients. - Jonny who can help you film for your business. - Jonny who can make your business relatable. - Jonny who can tell your story through video. - Jonny who can do your behind the scenes. - Jonny who can help you set up a podcast - Jonny the 'Story Club' guy. (Maybe even just: “Jonny that random Scottish guy” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿) And although all of that is true. My career isn’t all of who I am. I love to workout. I love to go on long walks. (even forced by David Hatt) I enjoy spending time with friends/family. I enjoy meeting and getting to know new people. (+ a million other things including the odd night out that I can't hack anymore at 34) I feel like often we forget that people on LinkedIn are real people, with real stories and real lives behind them. But it’s something we should all focus on. Because people are people. Not just talking heads behind a screen 👦🏻

Stop wasting your potential just because you think you are not READY. Stop wasting the opportunities you have just because you don't feel confident enough. I have wasted half of my life thinking - "I don't think I can do it like they do". I always thought that I am average. Until I changed my mindset. I told myself that I am good enough to at least start and try. People with half your talent are killing it because they started with whatever knowledge or resources they had. Read books/articles, watch podcasts/documentaries or go to museums. Start educating yourself. You don't need confidence, or money to understand how the world works.
