I have always LOVED surveys. Back in the day, I don't think my motives were very deep and meaningful- anyone else complete umpteen surveys in college for the free swag 👚🕶️🧢??? But as I got further into my own studies I realized how valuable survey #data are and, there are no data without people taking the time to complete the survey! Data help us, 🌟 Know what's working so we can do more of that 🌟Know what else is needed so we can get a jump start on innovating 🌟Know what lives inside people's heads and hearts 🌟Make sense of the world in ways that are rich and diverse 🌟Understand complex issues impacting us all Who doesn't need more of that?!?! I admit, for someone who loves research and data, I too have found myself deleting a survey request with the excuse of "I don't have the time" (see yesterday's post on the topic of excuses). But if none of us make the time, we can't collectively reap the benefits! For us at ClearEdge Rising, helping companies rise up women in leadership, this #genderequity survey really hits home. Are you prepared for the 27th February? 👀 Last Thursday, Stacey, Joni and I were lucky enough to attend the first Melbourne Recruitment Meetup for 2024 hosted by Matt Woodard + team and boy did this event light a fire in my belly. 🔥 We listened to 3 incredible leaders in the DEI space: - Dr Morley Muse - Natalie Flynn - Mary Beth Hosking MBT We discussed the impact of the gender pay gap on the economy, with Dr Morley Muse dropping a bombshell statistic, revealing that our economy hemorrhages a staggering $128 billion annually due to the absence of women in the workforce.🎤 Specifically, for my P&C leaders and Talent community, there was one question asked by Natalie Flynn that stopped me in my tracks: Natalie: Could I please get a show of hands from those who are across their organisation's gender pay gap or employer statement that will be published by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency on 27 February? The response from the group: one hand went up in the room 🙋🏼♀️ . (and it wasn’t mine) 👀 🚀 In the aftermath, I found myself embarking on a mission. Armed with Natalie’s question, I traversed the landscape of HR and Talent professionals, only to discover a startling truth: many teams remain ill-prepared for the impending conversations this data will reveal. On #Internationalwomensday, we are taking the opportunity to reflect on the best practice highlighted within our Women in Infrastructure report. Our report explored how unconscious bias in recruitment is a significant barrier to attracting women to the infrastructure industry can. In 2022, WSP in the UK took proactive efforts to diversify their candidate pool, leading to a substantial increase in the gender diversity of their new recruits. WSP reviewed their recruitment adverts, removing gender coded language and incorporating information that was relevant to a variety of audiences. The new recruitment templates had wide ranging impacts, such as saving hiring managers’ time, ensuring consistent brand messaging across the business, and increasing female applications by 33% since the policies introduction.
