I help Healthcare and Social Care professionals maximise their potential | Founder of Firstaid4youth
5 ways I consistently achieved optimum patient satisfaction. I want to discuss a phrase that we should all eliminate from our vocabulary in health and social care: "It's only...". This seemingly harmless phrase can have a profound impact on how we treat our patients/service users and their concerns. Over my 10 years of experience in healthcare, I've seen the detrimental effects this term can have on the care we provide. When we say "It's only..."—whether it's "It's only a headache" or "It's only a mental health call out"—we inadvertently minimise and devalue our patients' concerns. But a concern is a concern, no matter how small we might think it is. Have you ever dismissed a patient's worry only to realise later that it was more serious than you initially thought? Here are 5 ways you can consistently achieve optimum patient satisfaction: · Validate Every Concern · Give Your Full Attention · Create A Culture Of Empathy · Use Empowering Language · Reflect and Improve Not using the term "It's only..." in healthcare can transform the way we think about and actively treat our patients. By implementing all the steps above into your practice, we can enhance the standards of care and build stronger, more trusting relationships with our patients. #leadership #innovate #quote #creators #content #blogging #linkinpost #careersadvice #career #healthcare #care #selfimprovement #learninganddevelopment

I'm still recovering from my last endo operation. The pain is endless, the journey is deeply problematic, and the research still has a long way to go. It's heartbreaking that on top of having this condition, you also have to be an advocate for yourself every step of the way. Fighting through being belittled, feeling unheard, and disregarded in the health system. It's exhausting. I can't express how much having a supportive place to work in makes a difference. It's why I choose to freelance so I can be adaptive, but this also comes with its own huge burdens of not having the structures in place to support you when you need to be in hospital, or crawled up in a ball. I really want to push for more support in this area. I am gearing up to start a new collaborative creative project exploring this, so would love to connect/chat more with anyone that's interested. If you don't know much about endometriosis, please do look into it and consider how your work practices can be more adaptive and empathetic to those experiencing chronic pain. Endometriosis UK has some fantastic resources as well as the The Endometriosis Foundation run by the incredible Carla Cressy. If you think you might be experiencing it, I am always here to chat, share my own journey or point you in the right direction! #endometriosis #endoawareness #endometriosisactionmonth #creativehealth #artsforhealth #chronicpain #accessibility #inclusion #wellbeing #creativesector

If you feel anxious before a doctor's appointment, this blog is for you! "If you worry about going to appointments, especially doctors’ appointments, you are not alone. Going to see the doctor can be scary and nerve-wracking for everyone, even if you are just going for a wellness visit or a check-up. While you are sitting in the waiting room of your doctor’s office or getting ready for an appointment, anxiety may creep in. After all, a cold, sterile office and sharing intimate details about your health and personal life is not the most welcoming of environments. There are many reasons why you may experience anticipatory anxiety before a doctor’s appointment, but there is no reason to let your fear get in the way of you seeking medical care and/or treatment altogether." #HealthAnxiety Click this link for the full blog: https://lnkd.in/esukM-Nb

What if Every time we went to see a doctor, they didn’t just attempt to diagnose our issues and give us a prescription to fix them… But asked what was going on in our lives outside of the symptoms we were presenting with? ——— What if our physicians dug a layer deeper? Even if that meant extending the length of the visit from 10 minutes to 20 minutes, to understand → How’s work/school? → How are your relationships and friendships? → How’s your nutrition, sleep, and movement? → How are your stress levels? → How’s your mental and emotional health? → How’s your relationship with yourself? → How’s your body image? ——— When there‘s not an opportunity for our medical providers to understand what has (or hasn’t) been going on in our lives lately… Neither parties are set up for success. ——— They, as our providers, aren’t able to get to the root of our problems. And therefore, aren’t able to treat it most effectively. ——— Without that background context, they’re doing guesswork using a sliver of information. After all, symptoms are a manifestation of the issue, not the issue itself. ——— And we, as patients, don’t feel fully seen or heard when we aren’t able to share the whole truth of what’s going on behind the scenes. No one wins when we don’t make the space and time to understand the full person and their story. ——— It may seem like a “waste of time and resources” when in reality, it’s actually making things more effective. You spend the extra time upfront so you don’t have to spend extra time later “fixing” more issues with more bandaids. ——— We have to make room for emphatic communication and whole person understanding in healthcare. It’s the missing link. #wholepersoncare #healthcareinnovation #empatheticcare

💯 🔥 🧨 💊 👨⚕️ This is a great summary of Western Medicine & the current ways most Prescriber’s operate. This is where Pharmacists could fill a void that has been missing for many years. ______ People should be treated holistically and a complete medical/social/nutritional/mental/etc. workup should be completed for every individual. If medicine is then needed, it should be personalized and the patient should be as much of the process as anyone else. _______ ***Destroying old, unhealthy habits and building new, healthy, sustainable ones going forward should be the ultimate goal.

How to Start a Self-Care Routine self-care is taking steps to tend to your physical and emotional health needs to the best of your ability. • Determine which activities bring you joy, replenish your energy, and restore your balance. • Start small by choosing one behavior you’d like to incorporate into your routine in the next week. • Build up to practicing that behavior every day for one week. • Reflect on how you feel. • Add more practices when ready. • Get support through sharing practices from loved ones, a coach, a licensed professional (like a therapist or dietitian), or through your healthcare plan, community, or workplace. #selftherapy❤️ #selfcare #selfcarethreads #selfcarethread #alvservices

Helping Individuals Live Happier, Healthier Lives Across their Lifespan | Gerontologist | Wellness Specialist
Our data within ALF or MC Communities I recently shared a post regarding our regular VALD assessment check ins. The question posed was, is this a true regression or is it a bad day? This information can be super useful for an assisted living or memory care community because it provides valuable insight in a resident’s function. You might ask, what can be gained from this insight? Well let me paint the picture a bit clearer, this particular gentleman lives with dementia. He’s strong as ever as he was a former athlete and was rather active prior to his diagnosis. We became involved at the recommendation of his physician. I share this to illustrate the idea that this gentleman would have easily passed the eye test on this given day. There wasn’t anything abnormal about his cognition, movement, fatigue. Everything was just as it would have been on any given day. So again, how can this insight be used? This information can be sent directly to the DON in order to schedule a check up to understand what may be occurring. Perhaps a medication was forgotten or given at the wrong time. This information can be provided to the care staff on the floor. This particular gentleman could have a second set of eyes and ears his way noting he was especially weak on this given day and he may be for days to come. This insight has the power to prevent a fall. In can be utilized as a starting point for preparing necessary services to come. Say a week, or two weeks down the line we see the same sort of regression. We will have been out in front of a potential adverse event. The family will have had the time to plan and coordinate other care services rather than doing so in a time of crisis. Movement analytics and data can provide a world of useful information! #livewell #seniors #seniorcare #seniorliving #independentliving #memorycare #assistedliving #conciergemedicine #health #healthcare #exercise #personaltrainer #physicaltherapy #aging #agingcare
