The country’s maternal health crisis goes far beyond the delivery room. New data shows that dangerous, unexpected birth complications often emerge weeks after the mother and baby leave the hospital, with Black patients experiencing these events at a rate 87% higher than white patients. On this Preeclampsia Day, we raise awareness on the importance of timely screening to ensure good maternal health. Preeclampsia affects 5-7% of pregnancies, posing serious risks to both mother and baby. Early detection and management are crucial. Let's support research, spread knowledge, and ensure every expectant mother gets the care she needs. Together, we can make a difference. #GenWorks #GenWorksHealth #PreeclampsiaDay #PreeclampsiaAwareness

Leveraging communications to end poverty, fight inequality and foster a cleaner, safer and more sustainable world.
By the time you read this post, a young woman in Togo or Bangladesh would have died in childbirth. One death every two minutes. One pregnant woman dies EVERY 2 minutes due to complications giving birth. This happens 800 times a day according to the #Goalkeepers 2023 report. I am blessed as a mother of four healthy children. I was one of the lucky ones with access to good maternal care. Most women worldwide aren’t so lucky - especially women of colour. Even those with financial privilege, like Serena Williams, who almost died in childbirth due to inadequate maternal care. It is unconscionable that millions of women are dying needlessly doing an age-old practice. We can develop AI technology and advance space exploration, yet we can not save our mothers. The good news, actually, there is no good news, but there is hope. The global imperative is that we must scale low-cost interventions so midwives and medical professionals worldwide can save our mothers. What would happen if women could stop risking their lives by choosing not to become pregnant? Exactly. Giving life shouldn’t cost a life. #GoalKeepers2030 #SGD3 #MaternalHealth #CredoAdvisory
In this year’s Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation #Goalkeepers2030 report, I decided to write about maternal health. Here’s why. https://m-gat.es/46hQwWx

Today we want to share how members of Congress are taking action on Black maternal health disparities by creating The Momnibus Act of 2023. The act was created by Congresswomen Alma Adams (NC-12), Lauren Underwood (IL-14), Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) and members of the Black Maternal Health Caucus to address the maternal health crisis in America. The United States has the highest maternal mortality rate of industrialized nations. Black mothers are 3 to 4 times more likely than White mothers to die due to pregnancy-related complications, Native Americans are 2 times more likely, and Latinx Americans are 1.8 times more likely. More than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths are preventable. Questions to ponder: • What are your thoughts on the Momnibus Act? Have you heard about it before? • Is there anything the Act doesn’t cover that you think should be included to support Black Maternal Health? https://lnkd.in/dBw6VAy We also invite you to watch the film "Aftershock" on Hulu. On Wednesday 8/16 at 12:00 pm, we will have a virtual discussion about Black maternal health and ways we can help support Black mothers. New maternal health data is now available from the CDC: https://lnkd.in/e-dF3j4p. The maternal mortality rates are decreasing, unfortunately the Black maternal health crisis persists.
