⚠️ Important Reminder for All Coaches and Club Leaders ⚠️
Safety must always come first, especially in winter weather and cold water conditions.
For coaches and club leaders, the responsibility is even greater. Conducting a dynamic risk assessment before and during each session is not just a recommendation; it's a necessity. This involves evaluating factors including weather, water conditions, visibility, and the skill, health, and experience of the crew. Preparation is key, so have a thorough passage plan in place and ensure you have a reliable means of calling for help in a waterproof pouch, and on your person, at all times.
Assistant Harbour Master Michael Spice advises clubs and leaders "Whilst we all want to make the most of the Thames when the weather allows, it is key that all crews and coaches are pragmatic when considering going afloat. Know your crews limitations and take the time to assess the overall conditions before heading onto the water."
Coaches must understand the limits of their crew. The safety and well-being of everyone on board should always be the priority. If you get into any difficulty, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
PLA Sports Manager and rowing coach Jenny Cooper-Low said: “The best coaches adapt quickly to suit their participants and environment, and will cancel a session when needed. The tideway can be unforgiving and leaves very little room for error- if in doubt, don’t go out.”

As we reflect on the unity and purpose shown at our recent Spring Harvest event, we find a natural transition into #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. 🌱 Just as we united to support affordable housing communities, let's now extend that same compassion towards mental health.
Thankfully, San Diego provides a plethora of outdoor activities to enhance our mental and physical well-being:
🔹 Dive into the Waves: Surf or swim at our iconic beaches.
🔹 Trail Exploration: Hike the scenic trails of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve or Mission Trails Regional Park.
🔹 Outdoor Yoga: Attend a session in local parks or beachfront locations.
🔹 Cycling Adventures: Discover the picturesque routes around Mission Bay or Pacific Beach.
🔹 Sunset Serenity: Take in the stunning sunset views during coastal walks.
🔹 Farmers' Market Delights: Select fresh produce and savor local cuisine.
Let's pledge to prioritize our mental health as much as we do our physical environment. Step outside, connect with nature and allow San Diego's stunning landscapes to inspire your well-being.
Generations in the Wild - KEY INSIGHT: Growing demand for well-developed campgrounds!
As co-founder at Outdoorsy, I've always believed in staying closely attuned to what families want from their vacation experience. So our strategy to invest in owning and operating campgrounds was a great way to get to know our guests, face to face. This is even more important as 🌲the $1 trillion outdoor industry is evolving faster than ever and why we launched ‘Generations in the Wild’, Outdoorsy’s inaugural independent research report, which delves into the values and preferences of four generations of RVing American families. 🏕️ One standout discovery is that developed campgrounds are in high demand in 2024. In fact, 8 of 10 families prefer them. The challenge? America’s best RV parks are often booked months in advance.
What exactly defines a well-developed campground? We think Outdoorsy Bayfield does a pretty good job of hitting all the marks. Think:
✨ Top-notch facilities: Spotless showers, bathrooms, outdoor kitchens, and inviting community areas.
🌿 Seamless online booking to the outdoors: From pools and pickleball courts to fishing, nature trails and dog friendly areas, easy access to nature for the whole family makes all the difference.
👩💼 Friendly, available staff: A warm Outdoorsy welcome and helpful assistance go a long way in creating a memorable stay.
🌟 Additional perks: Well-stocked general store, great WiFi connection, onsite food options, and enticing swag add extra flair to the camping experience..
What's the bottom line? The outdoor industry is evolving, and developed campgrounds are poised to steal the spotlight.

Business aside, some people may know that I love to fish. There is something very satisfying and healing about foraging for food and eating what you catch.
Recently I had the privilege of being taken fishing by my good friend Milan, who is a celebrity fisherman with his own TV show in New Zealand.
We first met in the gym in Japan and despite having completely different backgrounds, we became good friends. I have always found Milan’s passion for nature and particularly fishing very inspiring, reminding me of the most important things in life. I try and get to NZ every year to fish with Milan and this year, he put me on his show (The Lateral Line, https://lnkd.in/gAMKYfjg).
And while I was in the boat trying my best to lure a fish with bait I had an insight - the M&A process is similar to catching a fish! Most leisure fisherman will use a single rod, choose their favourite location, meticulously prepare their bait, sit and wait for a fish to bite and then try to pull it up. Great fun and some people like Milan are world class at this. But it is also very hit and miss - no matter how good a fisherman you are, sometimes you catch nothing. The fish are just not biting. This style of fishing is suitable for sport but not for business.
If you want to catch more fish with a higher probability of success and in a shorter time, a simple way is to use more rods. Put 100 rods in the water at the same time and wait for the fish to find the bait. Chances are before long you will have several bites on at once and you will spend your whole time pulling in fish rather than waiting for them to bite. A different style of fishing completely - but you will catch more fish.
In a way, that’s what we do at match.asia. We have a marketplace of hundreds of quality sellers and buyers and we provide them with the tools to find a match amongst themselves. And when they do, our job is then to facilitate closure of these deals. We find it is a much more efficient and scaleable way of doing M&A, resulting in a significantly better experience for all.
