In my previous post, I mentioned the idea that the environment controls outcomes. Never underestimate the tailwind or an environment that's conducive to the success of your product or your offering. You might ask, “Isn’t it an entrepreneur’s job to find the right environment to build a product? Shouldn’t that also be one of the inputs?” Now, assuming that you were born in the US, and assuming that you have that entrepreneurial spirit and are smart/ambitious/greedy enough to be able to start a company, then determining the market that you wish to sell to is definitely part of your role. But say you weren't born in the US and don’t speak English in an economy that’s got 5% of the world's population and 28% of the world's GDP. If you were the same entrepreneur with the same quality inputs, and you're in the middle of, say, Cambodia, would you have the same outcomes? I don't think so. So it doesn't matter how good your inputs are if you were born in the middle of Cambodia. Ninety-five percent of your life was determined by that luck and the environment. #environment #entrepreneurship #luck
