Unleashing the Power of Medical Research Medical research grants are the lifeblood of innovation and progress in the field of healthcare. They fuel groundbreaking discoveries, drive scientific advancements, and hold the key to transforming lives. We understand how critical these grants are. By supporting hypothesis-driven research, we empower brilliant minds to explore uncharted territories, unravel complex diseases, and develop innovative treatments in the field of mental health conditions and neurodegenerative diseases. The Valour Foundation’s hope is that our commitment to funding medical research grants will help to shape a future where mental illness is given the same care and attention as any other medical condition, with effective treatments and quality services readily available to those affected. #TheValourFoundation #MedicalResearch #Breakthroughs #MentalHealthAwareness #NeurodegenerativeResearch

New publication! I am happy to share this article published in Dialogues in Health titled “The impact of education level and socioeconomic status on the association between depressive symptoms and memory in an older population in Latin America: An exploratory analysis from the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSI-BRAZIL)”. I had the pleasure of working as the first author in collaboration with talented and special friends from PPCR Course Wilson Fandino, Blanca Bazan-Perkins, Thiago Monaco, Nadine Aranis, Bassel Almarie, Julia Mineto, Aisha Aladab, Kevin Pacheco-Barrios MD, MSc, MPH and Felipe Fregni! For this project, we presented a model investigating the relationship between depressive symptoms and memory in elderly patients from the ELSI Brazilian cohort. Educational level was an important confounder, and socioeconomic status was identified as an effect modifier in the relationship. As a physician passionate about research methodology and the power of publicly available datasets, I could be happier! #ppcr #clinicalresearch #methdology #exploratorymodels #publiclyavailabledata #harvard

We're thrilled to announce our latest funding successes, with MSPS academics involved in two projects funded by Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF)! Associate Professor Camille Short will join a CI team of early to mid-career researchers on a project that will drive equitable cancer outcomes across Australia. Over the next five years, the team will work with a number of rural health services, developing and evaluating implementation strategies to embed best-practice cancer care in rural and remote areas. Dr Antoinette Poulton will be Chief Investigator on a project entitled 'Reducing Alcohol Intake and Harm Through Individualised Feedback'. The team of researchers – which includes MSPS alum Dr Gezelle Dali, and MSPS' Professor Rob Hester – will assess the efficacy of an innovative, scalable and accessible app-based intervention designed to curb hazardous alcohol use (heavy or binge drinking). The intervention allows users to track alcohol intake in real-time and provides personalised feedback regarding consumption and harmful outcomes, as well as individualised information connecting intake to cognitive health. The overarching objective is to examine how feedback information influences subsequent patterns of alcohol consumption and to consider maintenance effects. #fundingsuccess #psychology #unimelb

Really appreciate this excellent synthesis and review on the contribution of medical journals to #RaceBasedMedicine. Drs. David Jones, Evelynn Hammonds, Joseph P. Gone, and David Williams elucidate a history of published racialized pseudoscience supporting inequitable health care practices with a deleterious impact on minoritized individuals. We must change our thinking and our pedagogy in science and medicine to dismantle harmful stereotypes and improve #HealthEquity. #HotInHealthEquity

I help men over 40 optimize their health while still eating like a man by improving testosterone levels
The New England Journal of Medicine published (2007) that researchers found relationships can have a crucial influence on a person's weight: ⭐ 57% likelihood of becoming obese if a close friend had become obese ⭐ 71% likelihood of becoming obese if a same-sex close friend had become obese ⭐ 171% likelihood if a close mutual friend had became obese ⭐ 40% likelihood of obesity among pairs of siblings ⭐ 37% likelihood of obesity if one spouse became obese Dr. Nicholas Christakis of Harvard Medical School & Dr. James Fowler of the University of California, examined how social networks affect obesity using Framingham Heart Study, an ongoing research project funded by National Institute on Aging's National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) which collected data over a 32-year period of a large socially intertwined network of 12,067 adults. This is NOT a license to dump your friends, siblings or even a spouse 😜🙄🤔 It means We're Are ALL in this Together 🙌 And I've Got Your Back🤗➡ bit.ly/KBG-ApplyCaseStudy

A new study led by researchers Kristine Yaffe, Eric Vittinghoff, Eric Larson, et al. has found that "personalized health and lifestyle changes can delay or even prevent memory loss for higher-risk older adults." "These findings suggest that tailored interventions targeting individual risk profiles are more effective than generic approaches in reducing #Alzheimers risk." This week, The National Institutes of Health launched and is opening enrollment for Phase 2 Long COVID clinical trials focusing on viral persistence and cognitive dysfunction. As part of NIH’s Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) Initiative, these clinical trials are designed to evaluate multiple treatments simultaneously to swiftly identify those that are effective. Interventions not showing promise can be ended, and trials can quickly shift to alternative approaches as they are identified. RECOVER-NEURO will examine interventions for cognitive dysfunction related to long COVID, including brain fog, memory problems, and difficulty with attention and problem-solving.
