2020 made it abundantly clear: the technologies of tomorrow will continue to advance at an accelerated rate with the potential to impact lives profoundly, for better or for worse. For companies, it means ethically deploying technology and building and leading with the intention of having a positive impact on society and the world. For founders or investors, it means embracing the idea of Responsible Innovation: 1 - Minimizing the effects of unintended consequences and creating technologies with respect for all stakeholders 2 - Creating technologies that solve society’s most challenging problems - climate change, inequality or inclusion, or healthcare. These initiatives aren't part of some transient fad. Responsible Innovation is essential and permanent to the sustainability of our society. Today’s consumers are better informed and more socially aware. They want and expect businesses to reflect their own values, and they support the ones that do. Tired of new health tech companies promising to improve quality, cost, access and experience but targeted toward only those consumers who can pay. I would love to see more innovation in Medicaid and Medicare to truly make an impact on cost and quality of care.
Well said! As a student tech community, our projects are subconsciously chosen in a manner that satisfy these points. The next gen innovators have these values engrained in them!
I greatly appreciate your post. Ethics, transparency, and patient voice at the center of any technology that is built. For us, this means consent AND consent management throughout care. To enable this, you must build a sound framework to enable patient choice and control.
Powerful thoughts with wide reach. So much of this about the choices instititions make collectively (vs individually).
Agreed. For instance, using ethical AI to ensure ML models are equitable and avoid negative impact.
Thank you Hemant Taneja. I do want to believe that majority supports these initiatives.
And hopefully with some evidence…
Wonderful, glad we featured you to our students!

2yThank you for this Hemant Taneja 🙏🏽 This is both powerful and purposeful. Responsible Innovation can only happen when we have more diverse founders being funded and supported by investors.
