Giving Tuesday We have had Black Friday, which seemed to last a whole month, everywhere you looked there were messages telling you how much you could save. And still they go on. It’s Time to flip that on its head. Life is enriched not by having but giving. For me, Happiness and a meaning to life comes from giving to others, especially those less fortunate than oneself. This is the point of Giving Tuesday. Many charities need you. You can always find one that sparks a real meaning for you. They come in all shapes and sizes, for a huge range of causes. Giving doesn’t just mean money. You can give your time, your energy, or simply your voice to spread awareness. Your support is what they need. One charity I support is Ride For Freedom – A charity that supports survivors of modern slavery. Follow the link here to find out more. https://lnkd.in/eMUEtXpG The weekend of Friday December 1st to Sunday December 3rd is their annual Cycle Revolution event. Lots of people around the country are doing various events to raise funds for their Freewheel programme. The programme supplies cycles to survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery. The aim for the weekend is to supply 200 bikes for the programme. The event page is here https://lnkd.in/e6bDefE5 I am doing my bit for the cause by giving my time and energy over the weekend. On Saturday 2nd December I will be attempting to complete the vEveresting challenge. Riding on Zwift for repeats of the virtual Alpe D’Zwift climb until I reach the equivalent of the height of Mount Everest, 8848 metres of climbing, approximately 9 ascents of the Alpe. On Sunday morning 9am, I will be leading a one hour social ride around a flat course in virtual London on Zwift with Gordon Miller, CEO of Ride For Freedom. This ride is a great opportunity to ride at a social pace and chat on Discord with fellow Zwifters. With Zwift’s magic band function keeping everyone together regardless of power, its the perfect club ride. Opportunities to join me on Saturday exist throughout the day. If you use Zwift and want to ride even a small section of the Alp with me, I would be very grateful of the company. To join, first make sure you are following me on Zwift. My Zwift name is F rosty the snowbear (just search for Snowbear and you should find me). Then use the Ride with a Zwifter option on your home screen and select my name. It will take me at least 12 hours to do this so plenty of opportunity to find me whatever time you are free, your support on the day will be very welcome. Donation page for Ride For Freedom Cycle Event is here https://lnkd.in/eCKCATvQ Please give whatever you can, time, energy, voice or money. Please share this post to add your voice to the cause. #RideForFreedom #Charity #GivingTuesday #ZWIFT #vEveresting #CycleRevolution #EndModernSlavery #Freewheel #ShowARedCard #donatenow #pedalforchange #abolitionofslavery #socialimpact

Chatting with the girls from the Stephen Gallacher Foundation at the weekend, we discussed hydration levels. A lot of the girls didn’t drink a lot of water when playing because of the lack of toilet facilities at courses. Which is a real shame if they are being held back from performing at their best because of this. Hydration plays a massive role in golf performance physically and mentally. Have any female golfers felt the same when playing or club pros/managers had this raised to them? Obviously it’s not as easy as just spending money to put a toilet on the course. A solution could be to introduce hydration tablets/powders. Not having to take in as much water but getting more out of it with the added electrolytes.

Bring back kids for a quid! As a professional sports club aiming to boost fan attendance sustainably, there is a psychological shift induced by charging even a nominal fee, such as $1, or £1 for those reading in England :) Having seen many free ticket campaigns offered by sports clubs only have a minimal short-term impact on attendance, this small fee can significantly alter the dynamics of the social contract and commitment between the club and its supporters. What are your most successful ways of improving long-term attendance at your game? https://lnkd.in/ga54Ff_7

This is going to be such a great event. Take a look at the article and then let me know if you'd like to come with me. #yeg #yegbusiness
The Mill Craft Bar + Kitchen at 4810 Calgary Trail South, Edmonton, will be hosting a fundraiser for the R&R Empowering Society of Alberta to help individuals from diverse backgrounds learn from each other's experiences and knowledge with regard to people, cultural and professional skills required to navigate through life and build a cohesive, successful society. The Story... On December 19, 2016, my husband and I found our two sons, Ryder (13) and Radek (11) murdered by their biological father at his home in Spruce Grove, AB. My sons moved there just three months earlier in order to play hockey at a higher level. In the minutes, days and months following their deaths, I couldn’t imagine how my life could move forward without them, but I did remember lying in their beds that fateful night and making them a promise to keep their legacies alive and let the world know their names. Yesterday morning Tasker Goodchild and Tracy Stark were hosted on Global television to speak to the event. To learn more about Tracy's story, find details about this event, and purchase tickets visit our website at www.sawmill.ca https://lnkd.in/e_Je3m6F

Some years ago, I knew a woman who worked in a very poor community. She tried to alleviate the worst hardships, providing food, secondhand clothing, sanitary towels, that sort of thing. She started a soccer team to get kids off the street, give them a sense of identity and a healthy outlet. She got kit donated and fostered a sense of pride. One Saturday morning, she had arranged a match with a privileged club, so that the team could play a team that had professional coaching and see what the standard was. I agreed to go and cheer for the team - they wouldn't have any support. I was horrified. The privileged kids were constantly fouling the poor team, and the referee turned a blind eye. Instead, he penalised the kids who were poor, outnatched and playing a clean game (despite the yelling of some supporters). Of course they lost, but more badly than they should have. What should have been a learning, growth experience taught them that the odds are stacked against them, as they thought. No amount of hotdogs or applause from a few random people in their team colours could cheer them up. And why would it? It wouldn't change anything. Those dejected faces, so hopeful 90 minutes before, will stay with me for a very long time. We need to do better. We need to foster hope. And we need to hold privileged clubs and crooked referees in sports and in life accountable. #Privilege #Unfair #Foul Image description: Close-up, ground-level view of a well-kept soccer field.
