Smarter Subsea Handling, a finalist for The Offshore Achievement Awards 2024, is delighted to announce the signing of a memorandum of understanding with SFF Services Limited, the commercial wing of the Scottish Fishermen's Federation. Smarter Subsea Handling and SFF Services Limited are developing multiple uses for deploying the ROVAR variable buoyancy system into both the oil & gas decommissioning and offshore wind construction markets. These developments shall expand the capability of smaller vessels for underwater lifting and handling of infrastructure, and facilitates expansion of the vessel lifting market. Both companies are currently developing uses of combining ROVAR from Smarter Subsea Handling and vessels from the Scottish Fishermen's Federation for use in two distinct areas: firstly Offshore Wind construction support, including mooring lines positioning and dynamic cable handling; and secondly, Oil & Gas decommissioning support, debris clearance, and pipeline bundles removal. #subsea #underwater #vessels #decommissioning #offshorewind #oilgas #innovation #collaboration #marineconstruction #offshoreenergies #pipelines

Whether it’s oil and gas exploration or green wind energy, offshore safety is crucial due to the nature of the seas and demanding, often hazardous, work environments. The situation can go from zero to one hundred in a blink of an eye - emergencies can occur without any warning. Quickly notifying and updating crew members on Service Operation Vessels or Floating Production Storage and Offloading units, and oil rigs can really save lives. This blog post explores emergency response notification systems and looking deeper into their technical aspects. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/evMynTSc #safety #offshore #sov #fpso #BecauseItWorks

The exploration and production of oil and gas, especially offshore, have become critical to meeting global energy demands, more than ever before. We produce more, we sell more, we need energy for that. Any offshore operation, whether it’s an Oil Rig, FPSO, even an SOV, operating around the wind park, by their very nature, presents some unique challenges including extreme weather conditions, remote locations, and the complex and hazardous nature of the materials being handled. Given these factors, we need to ask ourselves one question. Why emergency preparedness is important and it is not merely an option? It is a vital necessity. This article explores the reasons why, highlighting use cases which shows the significant consequences of both preparedness and lack of it. Short but very interesting reading. Showing that ship builders are targeting offshore “energy” market considering the decommissioning (platform or pipe recovery) as a sub market that came to stay!

Vice President Business Development | Key Account Manager | Oil & Gas | Stakeholder Management | Strategy | Supply Chain | Building relationships to increase company's value and profits
Considering the recent trend by the operator, refocusing on the oil & gas activities, this is a welcome news, since oil & gas should not be demonized, but actually, made it more sustainable. I believe that, without the revenues coming from hydrocarbons activities, there will be no Energy Transition. #offshoredecarbonization #offshore #betteroilandgas #emissionreduction

We are pleased to announce the release of IOGP Report 667 - Guidelines for upstream pre-project decommissioning estimates. This document provides guidance on the development and maintenance of pre-project technical cost estimates for upstream oil and gas industry asset #decommissioning, with particular reference to those that support the determination of Asset Retirement Obligations (ARO) provisions. IOGP believes that industry-wide standardization is a valuable and attainable goal. The IOGP Decommissioning Committee identified variations in the development of estimates supporting ARO provisions across the oil and gas industry. These guidelines are intended to improve consistency in the development of all pre-project estimates for upstream assets decommissioning and to allow lessons to be shared across companies and regions. This Report contains recommended approaches based on the experience of IOGP Member Companies. It provides recommendations, not requirements or regulations. Report produced with support from Turner & Townsend The guidelines are free to download from the association’s website and should set the standard globally as to how global operators around the world should look at development and maintenance of pre-project technical cost estimates for upstream oil and gas industry asset decommissioning. Why is this important? - We are helping drive consistency in the industry’s’ thinking. - We see a demand for estimating services in this space

The oil and gas experience is still however invaluable ..
An interesting article for the supply chain explaining the differences between an Oil and Gas project, say an FPSO and a floating offshore wind project in terms of the size and quantity of mooring systems , anchoring and the impact on port facilities and cargo movements .
