IKEA celebrates a new partnership and we are inviting all customers to join us and become change makers by buying the tasty Rainbow cake that is now available in the Canadian IKEA restaurants. We donate all sales up to $200,000 between June 1st and July 31st to Rainbow Railroad! Each slice of this colourful and delectable cake will support their goal this year to help approximately 500 LGBTQI+ individuals create a better everyday life in Canada – where they can live openly and authentically.

In April, May and June 2024, IKEA is turning many of its store parking lots into consumer-to-consumer marketplaces with a series of flea markets and car boot sales. The retailer is inviting IKEA Family members to clean out their homes and garages and sell any furniture, toys or knick-knacks they no longer need. IKEA will also sell its own 'last chance' and secondhand items. Following successful pilots in 2023, IKEA is hosting flea markets in various European countries, from Switzerland to the UK. Pricing varies per location. In Cardiff, for example, sellers are requested to make a GBP 5 donation to support a local charity. In France, all events are organized as 'solidarity garage sales,' with EUR 10 fees benefiting various non-profits. In Belgium, IKEA is organizing 'the country's largest flea market,' with eight stores participating on 8 June 2024. Admission to all markets is free. Our report, released yesterday, exposes a trend amongst Generations Z and Alpha that demonstrates a stark contradiction between their attitude and behaviour towards protecting the planet and their unfettered shopping habits - which Charity Retail is best-placed to correct. Not only are charity shops critical to reducing items sent to landfill and tempting shoppers away from fast fashion, but they are also critical in providing relatively low-cost goods, acting as community hubs that can empower marginalised groups, encourage skills development and bring social cohesion. They can also provide a much deeper and more satisfying shopping experience when compared to the short-lived high of buying new goods online. It’s #InternationalMensDay today which is a day to celebrate worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. The theme this year is ‘zero male suicide.’ Of all the groups we help, men who have found themselves lacking a home and a suitable amount of furniture for whatever reason, quite often beyond their immediate control, are a significant proportion. As a society pride often gets in the way of asking for help, but asking for help is the first step to getting back up on your feet. It’s an incredibly strong thing to do. If you need a supporting hand furnishing a new place, please do get in touch. We don’t judge. We have lots of other contacts in the community too. The point is you are not alone. We believe everyone deserves a cosy, safe home, and we aim to assist in making sure that you have something decent to sleep on, somewhere decent to sit, eat, live… You can see what we have at www.RFSonline.co.uk/shop Too many are finding things particularly tough financially and we want you all to know that you are not alone. The good news is that Richmond and Wandsworth Councils, housing associations and local charities offer grants to buy furniture with us, and you get a 25% discount.* *conditions apply. EVERYONE deserves a bed to sleep in. At Newlife the Charity for Disabled Children, we understand the challenges retailers face in managing the lifecycle of clothing items. From damaged and returned to quality issue and sample clothing, it's crucial to find responsible disposal routes that benefit both people and the planet. Here’s why donating to Newlife should be your top choice: Supporting a Noble Cause: By donating your unsold or slightly damaged clothing to Newlife, you directly contribute to providing essential equipment and support services to disabled children and their families across the UK. Your contributions make a tangible difference in their daily lives. Environmental Impact: Donations to Newlife help divert clothing items from landfills, putting them to meaningful use. This significantly reduces the environmental footprint of the retail industry and promotes a circular economy. Enhancing Your Brand Image: Partnering with a reputable charity like Newlife enhances your brand image and showcases your commitment to social responsibility. Consumers increasingly favour brands that prioritise ethical practices and community support. Streamlined Process: Newlife offers an easy and efficient donation process, ensuring that your contributions are collected quickly, and the stock handled securely. Our logistics team help to ensure a seamless experience for our retail partners. By choosing to donate to Newlife, you can make a significant difference in the lives of disabled children while promoting sustainability and enhancing your corporate social responsibility profile. It’s a win-win solution that supports both social and environmental goals. Let’s create a brighter, more sustainable future for all. #Sustainability #Retail #NewlifeCharity #DisabledChildren #CircularEconomy #TextileRecycling #FashionIndustry #CorporateSocialResponsibility #DonateToMakeADifference #SustainableFashion For more information on how to get involved, please message me or visit our website.

Help us host the thrift sale of your dreams! 🧵 Thrifting is great for the environment because it reduces waste and pollution and keeps consumer items in circulation for longer - we know this. But how do we address the social ethical concerns that it can give rise to? ↘️ Thrifting can further enable consumerism because it encourages to exchange things we don’t want with things we do, instead of consuming more mindfully. ↘️ A lot of fashion that ends up in thrift stores isn’t size inclusive, meaning it isn’t accessible to everyone. ↘️ A rise in thrifting leads to increased prices which can affect access for poor or otherwise marginalised folks, who rely heavily on second-hand consumer items. We are excited to launch One Future Collective’s Thrift Fundraiser, which is our way to facilitate better thrifting and connect our communities (and continue to do the work our brilliant Action Lab does!). Now is your chance to be a part of the sale, and help us curate a selection of reasonably priced, size inclusive, joyful items. We’re accepting: 🧚🏽 Books; 🧚🏽Luxury products (purses, shoes, perfumes, jewellery, and other luxury items!); 🧚🏽 Games - boards and cards; 🧚🏽 New and pre-loved clothes, shoes and accessories that are size inclusive and gender neutral. If you like, you can add a small note or story to your items to share with their new homes! You can find more details about the fundraiser and the shipping address at: https://lnkd.in/dXPDZbPM. If you have any questions about your contribution, please reach out to shreya@onefuturecollective.org. #donate #thrift #fundraiser #support #action #share #OneFutureCollective

Enjoy this podcast episode with Giles Smith on our sustainability journey #GoKindly
🟣 On today’s show (Episode #68) we take a look at a brand that’s turning the sales of sustainably-made bedding basics into social good. https://lnkd.in/gF-rEdUe Laura McConnell is the co-founder of #GoKindly, a social enterprise that donates 50% of profits to women and non-binary people experiencing housing stress through charities like Juno and Women’s Housing. In our chat Laura shares her personal journey towards starting a business-for-good, and the journey the brand continues to be on in evaluating the most sustainable way to make bedding basics like quilts and pillows, including taking responsibility for end of life. We also explore Laura’s commitment to what she calls the Kindness Circle, how that requires conscious decision making at all touchpoints with the brand, and how they’ve distilled all the incredible things they do down to a simple message that both customers, employees and other stakeholders can understand and get on board with instantly. #socialenterprise #equality #businessforgood

Loved chatting with Laura McConnell from #GoKindly on this week's show! A couple of things really stood out for me: ♻️ Today’s conversation was another reminder of just how important it is to consider the full product lifecycle when choosing what materials to use. 🟣 Next, Laura introduced us to what she calls the Circle of Kindness, where every touchpoint with a brand has kindness and respect built-in for all stakeholders, including the environment! ✅ Just how important brand congruency is to distilling simple, powerful messaging that customers can understand instantly and get on board with. That just might be the very essence of sustainability marketing! #sustainablebrands #socialimpact #socialcommerce
