It's my last working day at Aerospike and before I sign off I'd just like to pay tribute to the company I've worked at for the last five years. Aerospike gave me the opportunity to move into Sales Engineering i.e. providing the technical support needed to sell complex software products. It's been a great job. You still get the chance to have fun with computers, but at the same time you spend most of your time interacting with a wide range of different people and companies, presenting, explaining, supporting and brainstorming. I've travelled the world from my home office chair, but also made many trips to companies throughtout Europe as well as to the US West coast where Aerospike is based. I've enjoyed, learnt from and valued the time I've spent with my many Aerospike colleagues - naturally mostly in the UK but also across the world. Too many to mention but what's common across the company is a willingness to help, focus on goals, the acceptance of responsibility and parity of respect. It has also been a pleasure working with our many customers in varied industries, grappling with the challenges of scale that the modern world brings. Aerospike is a great product. The fundamental goal of the company was to build a reliable high performance database and it's still the case that nothing gets in the way of delivering that. If you need the most responsive database out there, the one that maximises what your hardware can do for you and the one that allows you to sleep easy at night then Aerospike is the product for you. I'd like to highlight the work that my colleagues do in trying to spread the word about Aerospike. We're constantly on the road, organising meetups, summits and many other events. It's work that requires determination and drive. We all receive invitations to many such events, sometimes to the point of fatigue, but I would put a plug in for making it a personal goal to attend a handful a year. There's no substitute for face to face meeting, you really don't know what you might learn and very probably you'll enjoy yourself, having just stepped a little outside of your day to day routine. Our events calendar here - https://lnkd.in/eQ7CNzeW - check out what we're doing in Berlin and Amsterdam in the next quarter. I'd also like to make a shout out to the risk takers and entrepeneurs that make it possible for most of us here to lead the comfortable lives that we do. I'm not an uber-capitalist, but it's the vision and determination of the likes of Aerospike founder Srini V. Srinivasan who create great jobs, allowing us to lead happy, purposeful lives, as well as putting food on our tables that we should stop to thank once in a while. My colleagues also clubbed together to get me this great t-shirt. For a man of a certain age, five years is a short time to wait for such an accolade. Scale on. #aerospike
