Brex to layoff 20% of their staff. Business leaders often have to make tough decisions. I like the approach that Pedro Franceschi and Henrique Dubugras take. They accept full ownership of the decisions that took the company down this path and the layoffs, without too much jargon and too many boring buzzwords and meme typical excuses or blame. In 5 months since joining Brex's Enterprise team, I've learned tons. Interestingly enough, my biggest lessons have come from teaching others. Since joining, I've helped onboard two SDRs, and each time, I've seen myself improve as a rep. When you have to go back and try to teach someone, it forces you to look at everything you do from a different perspective. This shift in perspective has allowed me to look at my processes differently, refine them, and share with clarity. Teaching back is such a valuable opportunity. 2 years ago today, in the middle of lockdown, I registered a new business. No big deal right...new businesses get registered every day of the week. This was an idea I'd be mulling over for years, but I honestly didn't know where to begin. Most of the stuff you hear about Start-Ups focuses on big funding rounds, complex cap tables or boom/bust exits....the reality is completely different, in my experience. It's about taking your idea, examining it from all sides and seeing if you can fan the spark into a flame. It's about finding one other person (for me that was Sam) who finds the problem you've set out to solve, equally intriguing. It's about ignoring the million other things you could be doing with your time and money, for long enough to give your idea a chance to actually germinate and grow. Most importantly, its about having enough intestinal fortitude (and ideally family support) to keep chipping away every single day, towards a distant goal, with no guarantee of success. Don't get me wrong...Trinity is still very much at the start line, in our SaaS journey, but as we celebrate our 2nd birthday, I'm really optimistic about the path ahead. For those of you who have cheered our journey from the sidelines... Who have volunteered their expertise to help craft our vision.... Who've become early Lighthouse customers and advocates...
