t's finally here, the Silicon Valley Open Studios event on May 11-12, and I hope to see you there! I will be at 12133 Foothill Lane, Los Altos Hills in a group of 10 local artists working in a wide range of mediums: paintings (in watercolor, oil, alcohol ink, and casein), wood sculpture, photography, metal prints, and glass mosaics. We'll be in a beautiful garden location, and the weather is forecast to be exceptionally pleasant, with highs in the mid-to-upper 70's, sunny skies, and a light breeze. We hope to see you there for a day filled with inspiration, conversation, and the chance to support local artists. #art, #SVOS, #artists

We call paintings, sculptures, photographs, et.al., "Art." But, I wonder, is the art the final "thing" or is it the journey of making? If so, then maybe the "thing" we see in museums and that we buy for our homes is really a byproduct of art. A memory. Here in Breckenridge at the International Snow Sculpture Championship, the fact that these men and women from around the world--South Korea, Denmark, Equador, Mexico, Lithuania, Mongolia, China, Germany and here in the US--have come to sculpt monumental works of art out of blocks of packed snow that are 10 x 10 feet and 12 feet high. They come in teams of four and travel great distances. The altitude makes many of them sick for days. The work is hard, physical labor. They have four days to complete their work; many will have worked straight through the final night trying to finish. And then, in five days, on January 31, the closing ritual will begin. Small fires will be lit at the base of these sculptures and they will melt to the ground. The next day snow plows will clear the piles and the patch of land will once again become a parking lot. All that's left will be memories. During a series of interviews last night, I asked some of these sculptors why they would do all this? It's expensive and there is no prize money. They can't sell this work and in the end it will be scraped and the snow will cycle back into the earth, as if it never happened. Their answers were simple and profound: We do this for the act of making, to be surrounded by fellow sculptors, to have meals together once a year, to catch up with old friends, and to make something that we can give people. Yes, it will go away, but that is the most perfect part of it: we leave memories, and those will never go away. These interviews will be shared on my podcast, Dinner with Artists. I'll let you know when this episode goes live. Visit www.rosefredrick.com to sign up for my newsletter. #gobreck #breckenridge #breckenridgesnowsculpture #theincurableoptimist #snowsculpture I

🎨 **Exploring the Power of Art: Connecting Emotions and Ideas through Creativity** 🌟 Art has always been a profound means of expression for me, allowing emotions and ideas to flow freely onto canvas or through digital mediums. Whether it's painting, sculpture, photography, or digital art, each form holds a unique ability to communicate and resonate with others. For me, art is more than just aesthetics; it's a language that transcends barriers and speaks directly to the soul. It can evoke nostalgia, inspire change, or simply bring joy in its purest form. As an artist, I find immense fulfillment in exploring new techniques, experimenting with colors, and capturing fleeting moments of inspiration. In today's fast-paced world, art serves as a reminder of our humanity, offering moments of reflection and connection amidst the noise. It encourages us to see the world through different lenses and appreciate diverse perspectives. What does art mean to you? How has it influenced your life or work? Let's celebrate the transformative power of art together! 🎨💫 #ArtisticExpression #CreativeJourney #VisualArts #Inspiration https://lnkd.in/gDzv5zCM

Do you find it intimidating to buy art? Don't be! Many of us are not “professional art collectors”; and that’s ok. You don’t have to be a “collector” to appreciate and own an original piece of art. It doesn’t have to be intimidating or scary! I always tell my clients to think of it as splurging on a bespoke Vase or piece of furniture for your office or your home. There are various art genres: Figurative, Portraiture, Abstract, Landscape, Still Life, Realism, Sculpture, Photography and more.. How do you know what you like?! 1. Visit museums and different art shows to explore the various styles and think about what you like and don’t like. 2. Talk to the artists ask them how long they have been partaking in their media? Why did you become an artist? Can you explain the intent and meaning behind your artworks? 3. Go to their website and follow them on instagram to learn more about them, their creative process, how active are they in creating work? Are they credible professionals or amateurs/hobbyists? 4. Most importantly - DO YOU LIKE THE ARTIST? DO YOU FEEL AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO THE ARTWORK. It is unlikely that a piece of artwork you buy will appreciate in value like Picasso, Monet or a Kandinsky - So, I tell my clients - “you have to make a connection with the piece and love it”. That is how it holds its value. So Why should you buy original art? For the same reason you purchase a high quality and decorative product for your home. You want to express your space to be unique to you as an individual, couple or family. You want to celebrate a promotion or recent milestone in your life and remind yourself with a token of your success. Your space will be unique, you will have a conversation piece when entertaining guests and you will be supporting the arts. My work is an abstract mixed media fusion of the Japanese art of Kintsugi and the spiritual world of the chakras. WIP. acrylic on canvas 90cm x 90cm. The work comprises an older painting I created in 2015 with an additional layer of a transposition of a more recent digital work. I am now creating 3D fragments to incorporate and extend the picture plane. Related research - Walter Benjamin - The work of art in the age of mechanical reproduction. Jos De Mul - The work of art in the age of digital recombination. Gilles Deleuze - Cinema II - Deterritorialisation of the image. I'm currently exploring Benjamin's theory of the cult and exhibition value of the work of art and the impact of technology on social cohesion. I haven't yet analysed the painting for symbols and archetypes. As the work develops, I will begin to explore its meaning further. . . . . . #Benjamin #Delueze #metamodernism #art #artist #painting #metacrisis #space-time #reality #digitalmedia #baroque #neobaroque #sublime #technology #deterritorialisation #digitalsublime #Jung #transformation #impermanence #transience #unconscious #psyche #paradox #self-reflective #painting #metacrisis #apocalypse #surrealism #otherworlds #alchemy
