Healthdirect is proud to partner with the Queensland Government to connect Queenslanders to their new Virtual Emergency Care Service via our digital Symptom Checker. Healthdirect operates the digital triage channel that gives Queenslanders access to the most appropriate care to meet their needs. After completing the Symptom Checker, consumers receive care recommendations based on their symptoms. This may include visiting a GP, pharmacist, or staying home when safe to self-care. Now, in urgent but non-life-threatening situations, Queenslanders can be connected to the Virtual Emergency Care Service. Healthdirect will continue to work with all States and Territories to improve access to care and reduce pressure on Emergency Departments. Have you ever gone to the Emergency Department, been waiting in the waiting room, and realized that a patient who checked in after you was seen before you? This event is very common as in the ED, patients are not seen first-come-first-serve. Rather we see patients based on what we call "acuity levels." Triaging and acuity levels can be complicated, but what you need to know is that the higher your acuity level, the faster you will be seen. An acuity level of one, for example, is the most urgent, and a level of five is the least urgent. So if you come to the ED and are assigned an acuity level of four, all the patients there with an acuity level of two, for example, are probably going to be seen before you. Although this process might be frustrating, it is important to remember that the main goal of the ED is to save lives. We are always going to take care of the patients who are dying before we take care of those who are not. If you are skipping the line, that's not a good sign! I sympathize with every patient who has to wait an extended period to be treated. However, it may be a blessing in disguise if it means you are stable enough to wait until the more critical patients are seen before you. Please be patient with your ED staff as we seek to give the best care to all our patients, and save lives! Read more in the article below: https://lnkd.in/dRqpGuEb

Founder and CEO/ Business Development Account Manager Entrepreneur dedicated to making a difference in the health and welfare of individuals.
Recent extreme heat caused many organizations to have had issues or total loss of their air conditioning. Healthcare providers who provide care to vulnerable populations are faced with difficult decisions when conditions, like loss of HVAC. Although evacuation may be the last resort, it is vital to have a well coordinated mutual aid system, a plan for evacuation, transport, relocating residents and staff. The CHUG team has worked through chaos even when our members have a plan. Plans are flexible, but if you deviate too much it can cause havoc. In addition, inadequate staffing levels and turnover can cause additional unwanted concerns. If there aren’t adequate team members or staff that are knowledgeable about the plan they might become anxious, causing vulnerable populations to be uneasy. Residents can sense apprehension which may induce unwanted stress. It is very important to educate your entire team on evacuation and emergency operation plans, including the Incident Command System ICS. Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Programs HSEEP provide a framework for facilitators with a set of principles for training and education programs. Emergency preparedness teams, like CHUG, follow the HSEEP guidelines to provide a comprehensive program to train, practice and empower staff members. Evacuation plans and exercise programs provide the essential tools and knowledge to be prepared if a situation warrants. The need for response to a hazard or evacuation is vital. HSEEP training and exercises provide best practices and key components of preparing, evaluating and improving plans. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid CMS who regulate healthcare providers on emergency preparedness programs require organizations to train and test evacuation and emergency operation plans annually and be included with orientation. The CMS regulations vary depending on the provider but are consistent on the specifying that emergency preparedness education and training are essential. September is emergency preparedness month, join CHUG and the community and get prepared, there is no better day to start to prepare than TODAY! #emergencypreparedness #preparedness #healthandsafety #healthcarecompliance #healthcarepreparedness
Having a well-developed and regularly practiced evacuation plan is critical for nursing homes to safeguard the lives and well-being of their residents during emergencies. It's a proactive measure that acknowledges the unique challenges faced by these facilities and ensures that residents receive the care and support they need, even in the face of disaster. An evacuation plan includes provisions for transporting medical records, medications, and essential medical equipment, and ensuring residents receive the care they need during an evacuation. Education is power! Learn what services are appropriate 🙏
Due to an exceptional increase in demand, we kindly ask that you only visit the Emergency Department in the case of a life-threatening emergency. For non-life-threatening medical concerns, we encourage you to use the Crawley Urgent Treatment Centre or the minor injuries facilities at Horsham Hospital and Caterham Dene Hospital as alternative choices. We deeply value your understanding and cooperation as we strive to deliver the highest quality of care for our community.
