With the #Budget2024 announcements set to take place next week, here is a reminder of our budget submission. Acquired Brain Injury Ireland is seeking a €4m allocation in Budget 2024 to take the first steps to begin to move 90 people with disabilities under the age of 65 out of nursing homes. RTE'S recent investigation into the Ombudsman's 'Wasted Lives' report found that very little had changed since the report was published in 2021. Currently, there are 1,250 people under the age of 65 living in nursing homes and a majority of these people are living with brain injury. They are left merely to exist in nursing homes, where they have no independence and this needs to change. We hope the government will consider our plea. You can read more about our pre-budget submission here https://lnkd.in/eDhCHibW #BrainInjury #PreBudgetSubmission #Ireland

It’s the big day! Six weeks of campaigning has passed quickly and now we get to vote. Today, we will post each party’s NHS and healthcare commitments from the big three parties, as a reminder of what we might expect. Here are the Liberal Democrat Party’s commitments, without bungy jumps and water slides… Liberal Democrat Party promises Published 10/06/24 – below are some healthcare highlights (link to the full manifesto below): NHS pledges: · Give everyone the right to see a GP or the most appropriate practice staff member within seven days, or within 24 hours if they urgently need. · Increasing the number of full-time equivalent GPs by 8,000, half by boosting recruitment and half from retaining more experienced GPs. · Freeing up GPs’ time by giving more prescribing rights and public health advisory services to qualified pharmacists, nurse practitioners and paramedics. · Establishing a Strategic Small Surgeries Fund to sustain services in rural and remote areas. · Work towards a fairer and more sustainable long-term funding model for pharmacies and build on the Pharmacy First approach to give patients more accessible routine services and ease the pressure on GPs. · Making prescriptions for people with chronic mental health conditions free on the NHS. · Creating a statutory, independent Mental Health Commissioner to represent patients, their families and carers. · Boost cancer survival rates. · Passing a Cancer Survival Research Act requiring the Government to coordinate and ensure funding for research into the cancers with the lowest survival rates. · Halving the time for new treatments to reach patients by expanding the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency’s capacity. · Expanding social prescribing and investing in community projects that bring people together to combat loneliness. · Train, recruit and retain the doctors, nurses and other NHS staff we need. · Retaining more staff across the NHS through a ten-year retention plan. · Implement a ten-year plan to invest in hospitals and the primary care estate to end the scandal of crumbling roofs, dangerous concrete and life-expired buildings. · Harness the benefits of new technology and digital tools for patients. · Ring-fencing budgets to enable the NHS to adopt innovative digital tools that improve patient care and experience and save staff time and costs. · Ensuring every care setting has electronic records that can feed into a patient’s health record with the patient’s consent. · Expanding virtual wards and investing in new technologies that free up staff time and allow people to be treated at or closer to home. https://lnkd.in/eYy8k_Qv

LeadingAge PA President and CEO Garry Pezzano today issued the following statement on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2023-24 #PAbudget proposal: https://lnkd.in/g4PVnQjs “We look forward to working together with Gov. Shapiro and the Pennsylvania General Assembly on a state budget that will prioritize the growing needs of the commonwealth’s older population by ensuring access to high-quality care and services. We commend the administration for supporting older Pennsylvanians through proposed investments in Affordable Housing, the Long-Term Care Transformation Office, and the Master Plan on Aging. "As the budget process moves forward, we will continue to strongly advocate for long-term care providers who are grappling with rapidly rising costs, a well-documented workforce shortage, and increasing nursing home staffing minimums that can't be ignored and must be funded. In addition, without providing an adequate investment in the Living Independence for the Elderly (LIFE) program, we jeopardize the ability of PA’s aging services network to provide care and community to people who need it most in the setting of their choice. LIFE rates are simply not keeping pace with the true costs of sustaining this model of care. "LeadingAge PA will continue to work alongside aging services providers to build a strong workforce, improve efficiencies, and effect positive change through LTSS Evolve, while being laser-focused on the immediate need: necessary funding. “As we said when Gov. Shapiro first took office, Pennsylvania has a tremendous opportunity to create a long-term care system that is the envy of the nation — one that puts our oldest Pennsylvanians first and reassures their loved ones that no one does it better than the Keystone State. But we cannot do that unless a reasonable increase in funding for nursing home care and the LIFE program is in the final budget. The time is now. We stand ready to advocate and collaborate with Gov. Shapiro, state lawmakers and fellow stakeholders to accomplish this critical goal.” #agingservices #seniors #seniorservices #seniorcare #longtermcare #skillednursing #snf #personalcare #assistedliving #LIFEprogram #seniorliving #pennsylvania

USA, Nursing Homes 🇺🇲 In 2024, the outlook for investment in the senior housing sector in the United States is positive for several reasons. ➡ The increase in the ageing population means the outlook for housing demand is optimistic, particularly for senior housing. ➡ This asset class will continue to be attractive to older people with varying degrees of independence. Due to the aging population post-COVID phase, the outlook for housing demand is optimistic, particularly for retirement homes. ➡ In New York, nursing home activity has been the focus of particular attention from the authorities for some years. New regulations on medical staff, aimed at standardizing the ratio of staff to residents, have become a legal obligation, accompanied by financial penalties currently being assessed by the authorities. This morning's White House Fact Sheet on the forthcoming #nursestaffing and #MedicaidAccess final rules caused a lot of confusion in Washington and Wall Street. They detailed the broad strokes of the rules but look to be leaving everyone waiting until the 4:15 Federal Register Update for the details. What is clear, however, is that the Administration firmly believes that supporting pro-union/SEIU policies is important for turning out voters in the November election. For investors and companies, this is an important macro-perspective to keep in mind when strategizing around likely DC risks/opportunities. If you want to discuss this further and other areas where this theme is likely to play out - feel free to DM or email at tommy@jonespointdc.com. #privateequity #healthcare #staffing #elections #jonespointinsights #unions #SEIU https://lnkd.in/e5r9b_Kp

Family physician who helps Canadians with disabilities apply for the Disability Tax Credit to improve their financial security and well-being. Tax Preparation Disabilities
Physicians need innovative solutions that reduce their administrative burden and free up their precious time. My kind of "job action" was to create Benefits2, a website that helps save physicians time while helping them advocate for their patients by assisting with completing the Disability Tax Credit application. We were never trained in how to do this form, and we see it very commonly in practice. This website makes the whole process easier, saving doctors' time, easing the administrative burden just a little while helping patients get what they need. #disabilities #familymedicine #administrativetasks
