💡Consistency 💡 This word has been forcing itself into my life from a lot of different angles lately. Important to remember that there can be no consistency without discipline. Incremental progress through consistency can cut through mountains and spur real change. Bristol Myers Squibb has designated today as a professional development day and many of us are taking time to refocus and reaffirm our commitment to self-improvement through learning. Thank you Lida Citroën for an amazing course on #personalbranding. Excellent meeting/insights. Book recommendation, “38 letter from JD Rockefeller to his son: perspective, ideology and wisdom” on its way!
5️⃣ Executive Leadership Insights for Leaders of Every Level ... Yesterday, Mike Uchrin, CEO & Co-Founder of Monogram Health and Council Fellows 2016 alumnus, convened with healthcare leaders to share his insights on leadership, the unique and special business mentality in Nashville, how overcoming challenges can be the best for driving perspective and much more. 5 Key Leadership Insights: 1️⃣ Experience makes a bigger impact than the positions or titles you hold. Look for a role where you will garner the most experience - experience will propel your career. 2️⃣ The greatest learning happens when things don't go right - but don't allow those moments to define you. That is when you are able to create success, learn, and leverage that perspective as you move forward to grow and mature as a leader. 3️⃣ Be comfortable with who you are, whatever that means for you - understand it and embrace it. 4️⃣ Be deliberate about the culture you want to set and work on it daily. 5️⃣ When it comes to mentors, it is not necessarily singular- it is multiple different experiences. Very powerful article!
I penned this piece - The Plight of DEI Leaders - Heavy Expectations and Limited Protection - in the beginning of February. After getting many “no's” as well as silence from various publication entities (which does not typically happen), it finally is published today by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM Group) as a perspective piece...and I thank them. These past six months have been tough in figuring out how to best lead this work, my team, and myself. And I know many DEI leaders have been feeling the same as many have reached out. Thanks to all who helped support in all aspects of getting to this point. And to all the Equity and DEI leaders and teams - I see you. I feel you. PDF below. Our RadiantLeader.co Member Spotlight for June is Melanie Sollid-Penton, Senior Vice President at integrated healthcare communications agency GCI Health. Mel participated in the most recent cohort of Momentum, our mindful leadership course, so I asked her to share her personal approach to leadership and the impact Momentum has had, both on her and her team. Here's an excerpt from our conversation about the power of presence in leadership. Kristen: How do you, in your own mind, define what it means to be a Radiant Leader? Melanie: Radiance is to be lit from within. So you have to know who you are, what you have to offer and your philosophy about people. All of that has to be in place. I think you have to be centered, too, to radiate. Like you’ve said, I am responsible for myself. Right? I'm the only person that I can control. And one thing I learned in Momentum is that I can only control what is happening in this moment. So that's pretty finite. Nothing outside of now is a guarantee. But if you are taking those moments and meeting them with grace and responding thoughtfully to situations and coming from a place of calm and centeredness, I believe you're going to radiate. And as you do, you attract people who are like-minded in that centeredness... or who are craving it. -- I love the way you lead, Mel. Thanks for being part of the Radiant Leader community, and for letting us spotlight you this month. Folks interested in learning more about Momentum can do so here: https://lnkd.in/eZy6RJwR. We just scheduled our Fall cohort dates and registration is now OPEN. 🔥

We need more support. The toll of being an equity leader is high. Leaders: how does your organization support its equity leaders? Have a high rate of turnover in your DEI related teams? There is a reason for that. One that you can change.
