After reading this article, it is safe to say that the head injury protocols have come a long way from where it was when these players were playing. The RFL have done everything possible to ensure that players who suffer with head injuries get the relevant and correct treatment to minimise the post-contact injuries. The new protocols are definitely something that has helped take the sport further for current and future players. Legally, The RFL could arguably have done more in the current buildup to avoid such legal steps taken, however it is hard to judge what more they could have done at the time of these players’ careers, as we have continuously had more advances in technology and sports science, not just in rugby but across all sports. For younger participants of the sport, it needs to be stressed that coaches must help players with the correct techniques at a young age, so that those that go on to professional and elite levels, they become ambassadors for the sport and have further positive influences on the sport. https://lnkd.in/enXsd6WN

Active bystander trainer - promoting multi-agency partnership approaches to EVAWG - Women’s Safety in Public Places Project Lead at the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Northumbria
An inforgraph for intersectionality (a detailed theoretical approach) is a hard task to achieve and many may feel there are some missing pieces, maybe an inner inner circle of extreme power to directly affect others. But I do think this is a helpful tool for us all to understand both that: 1. Some people have some areas of life where they do have power and; 2. that doesn’t preclude them from experiencing disadvantage and marginalisation as a result of other aspects of identity. However the more marginalised we are, the less power and control we have over our own lives. So for those of us that do have power, I agree with Steph that it’s so important to create space for others to take it back and that’s not a complex task. Enter, solidarity.

This is not a football post, but I want to celebrate Newcastle United on their amazing performance over the last few years. Their 10 - 1 win at the weekend clearly shows that their standard is far above the league they're about to be promoted out of. Becky Langley and the team should be rightly proud of themselves and their achievements (Eddie and his team are doing remarkably well too considering the level of injuries they've had). I remember being a teenager in the mid 1980s and having to beg one of the male sports teachers to train us to play football. He and we gave up lunchtimes to train. We entered a five-a-side competition, one of handful of girls' teams, were trounced and subjected to so much misogyny from the male teams. My football career ended not long after. If I'm honest the main reason I wanted to play was probably because I was told I couldn't and because female sports got less attention and respect than the male ones I've always been a bit like that, fighting for the underdog; rallying behind a cause that needed a voice. As my seniority and profile has increased the necessity of me doing this has seemed to increase. I've been able to say things that others couldn't from a relative position of safety (and I stress the word relative here as I'm not safe, just safer). I was lucky enough to meet Becky Langley last month and was struck by how she too is using her position and seniority and the relative safety that success brings to speak out, and I celebrate her for that. Not everyone does the same. I'd like to ask you to think about the position and privilege you have and the relative power you may hold in different circumstances. How might you use that to improve things for someone else? (Picture shows the wheel of Power and Privilege created by Sylvia Duckworth adapted from ccrweb.ca It's an excellent tool I use for explaining relative privilege)

⚽ How does Premier League success on the pitch impact consumer interest and search activity off the pitch? ⚽ Rival Curo is our #ShareofSearch monitoring tool and we've used it to look at Premier League team search share for the 2023 season so far. What we see is that two teams: Liverpool Football Club and Manchester United dominate average search share, with 23% in total for the season so far - decoupling consumer interest and search from league table ranking. Overall, quite a few teams have higher Share of Search rankings than points at the moment, with Man U, Newcastle United Football Club, Chelsea, Luton Town Football Club, Nottingham Forest and Everton Football Club all attracting higher levels of search relative to their league position. In fact, as our full report shows, quite a few different factors drive SoS changes for EPL teams, including managerial changes, financial news and FFP penalties. Our full report has more data and charts here: https://lnkd.in/g23bTRmW Find out more about Share of Search and Rival Curo at www.wearerival.com #shareofsearch #search #data Share of Search Council

Exciting to launch the Football Pathways Plan, which sets out a clear strategy to maximise the potential of Irish football across all levels of the game. 🟢 The football pathways plan is based upon a 12-year vision with clear actions in both the short and long-term. 🟢 The strategy has been informed by a deep analysis of benchmarking data, comprehensive research, and a detailed consultation process. 🟢 The three core areas of the strategy focus on Participation, Pathways and Performance. 🟢 The goal is to increase the number and quality of participation experiences for all; to develop clearer, stronger, and more rewarding pathways and to produce players, teams and coaches, at club and country level, for boys and girls, men, and women, that are as successful as they can be. Premiership Directors of Rugby are seemingly unhappy over uncertainty regarding the RFU’s proposed “hybrid” contracts for England players. Amid the exodus of England stars to France (see last week’s post!) the RFU have proposed that a group of England players could be paid a regular salary by the RFU in addition to their club salaries, incentivising players to stay in England and be eligible for the national team despite lucrative offers from abroad. Under the proposal, England players would thus become quasi-centrally contracted. However, it appears that such hybrid contracts are yet to actually materialise, creating significant uncertainty for both players and clubs, as the end of the season approaches. That seems to be because the contracts would be agreed as part of the new Professional Game Agreement between the RFU and Premiership Rugby, which is presently being re-negotiated, ahead of next season. One alternative would be to abandon the “overseas player rule” (see last week’s post), allowing England players to take up lucrative contracts abroad whilst still playing for England, though that would of course not suit the clubs… #Rugby #SportsLaw #PremiershipRugby

What were the key factors behind Serie A clubs' decision to maintain the 20-team format, despite proposals to reduce it to 18 teams? _Answer:_ The decision by Serie A clubs to uphold the 20-team format stemmed from a clash of interests between top clubs and smaller ones, reflecting concerns over player workload and scheduling. Despite prominent clubs like Inter Milan, Juventus, AC Milan, and Roma advocating for a smaller league size, the proposal was ultimately rejected by a majority vote. Smaller clubs, represented by voices like Lecce president Saverio Sticchi Damiani, opposed the reduction, emphasizing the importance of preserving equal opportunities for all teams within the league. This decision underscores the ongoing debate surrounding player fatigue, calendar congestion, and the need to balance the interests of both elite and smaller clubs within Serie A.
