Very interesting to see the ambitious plans put forward for a £300m expansion of the MIRA Technology Park (MTP) in Nuneaton. Home to Europe’s largest automotive R&D cluster, additional manufacturing and industrial facilities are being added, helping to create 2,500 skilled jobs over the coming years. More than 40 large companies are based at the MIRA site including Bosch, Toyota, Jaguar Land Rover and Polestar, using a range of test facilities. The plans highlight the significant commercial demand that exists for high quality innovation space in automotive and the work being done by that sector to prepare for its future. Its important rail has its own world class hub of innovation to help tackle the challenges it faces - How do we find a sustainable path to net zero? How can we develop more climate resilient rail infrastructure? How can we encourage greater modal shift? How can we keep more major rail projects to time and to budget? That's what the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence is being designed to support. https://lnkd.in/ePdVb7qv #Innovation

PROUD MOMENT! Folkert de Haan had his first pitch for CORE CHANGEMAKERS yesterday during the Railforumdrinks at Railcenter. The topic; #railrobotics, something that we can talk about for hours of course! Once more thanks for the invite Thijs Cloosterman! So who better to give an insight into where the market could be heading, then the leader of the #HYPERIOS cluster himself. And he absolutely nailed it! To show some proof, enjoy this 'proud-parents-quality' video! And in case you weren't present, our ideas are simple. Based on the research that Nora van Zon did and our own experience, we advise collaboration within the triple-helix. Bring it closer to the students (#brainport) and allow an easier entrance for non-rail companies by focussing more on solutions and less on rail-yargon and specific rules. They are important, but maybe in a somewhat later stage. Want to start implementing this philosophy right away? Get in contact or visit us in Son, we are always open for new cool projects! Does everything have to come to an end? Well, we see this as the beginning. The Evolution Road electric road project in Lund concludes after 5️⃣ years of groundbreaking testing of our conductive electric road technique. Commissioned by Trafikverket, The Swedish Transport Administration, the Evolution Road consortium began testing Elonroad’s technology in 2019. The project aimed to explore the usage, construction, operation, and maintenance of electric roads and their potential to reduce emissions from heavy traffic. TAKEAWAYS This project has provided valuable insights and validated how electric roads can enhance electrified transport and reduce climate emissions. 1️⃣ The project has attracted significant international interest, bringing visitors to Lund to witness Elonroad's conductive electric road firsthand. 2️⃣ Collaboration between companies, researchers, and the public sector has been key, conducting numerous tests to verify the technology and generate new knowledge. 3️⃣ The electric road enables a 50% reduction in vehicle battery size, offering substantial environmental benefits. The conductive technology supports the high power demands of freight transport, such as buses and trucks, and has proven reliable in cold climates. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? The final phase of Evolution Road involves dismantling the electric road, and the results will now inform the Swedish Transport Administration's ongoing efforts toward fossil-free transportation. Elonroad continues to build electric roads, highlighting the first electric highway outside Paris on the A10, which is one of our ongoing projects with VINCI. WHAT THE STAKEHOLDERS SAY ABOUT THE PROJECT Sofia Magnusson, project manager at Trafikverket, states, “We are very pleased with the project's results. It has created a valuable knowledge base for the continued development of electric roads in Sweden and internationally.” Adam Sandgren, Business Development Manager for Lunds kommun, emphasizes the local impact: “This project showcases how innovative solutions can be tested in real-world settings. It’s a crucial step toward our goal of being climate-neutral by 2030.” Maria Edgren, project manager at Innovation Skåne, highlights the collaborative success: “We are proud of Evolution Road as a successful innovation project, demonstrating the power of collaboration between academia, private industry, and public partners.” Our CEO, Karin Ebbinghaus, adds, “The Evolution Road project has been a fantastic pilot for us, paving the way for the world’s first electric highway outside Paris.” A big thank you to Innovation Skåne Lund University Kraftringen Lunds kommun Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI) Skånetrafiken Ramboll Solaris Bus & Coach and everyone involved in this project 🙏🏾 More in Dagens Industri's 👇🏾 interview with Per Löfberg, Senior Project Manager at Elonroad. What a great chat, Per Mattsson. #Evolutionroad #electricroads #collaboration

Autonomous and emission-free water buses are the solution to many cities’ transportation challenges 🚤 In 2021 Innovation Norway is provided project support of NOK 5.5 million to Norway’s leading experts in the field to create what could become Norway’s next export adventure. The industry and clusters got the opportunity to collaborate on developing the water buses of the future through the ZAWAS project (zero-emission autonomous water shuttles). Now, the project is coming to an end and we have worked to: 🚤 Accelerate the development of Norwegian water buses into a significant export industry. 🧠 Serve as a central hub for the exchange of knowledge about the emerging segment of water buses internationally, covering technical solutions, market opportunities, business models, and societal benefits. 🫱🏻🫲🏽 Contribute to the development of robust value chains with as much Norwegian participation as possible, encompassing development, delivery, and operations. 💡 Gather and disseminate “best practices” regarding the integration of water bus solutions into a comprehensive mobility system. 📃 Understand and influence the regulatory framework. ♻️ Increase acceptance of the solutions through knowledge sharing and the presentation of innovative solutions.
