SC. nursing hello connection 📲 Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique that's useful in many emergencies in which someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped. For example, when someone has a heart attack or nearly drowns. The American Heart Association recommends starting CPR with hard and fast chest compressions. This hands-only CPR recommendation applies to both untrained bystanders and first responders. Put the person on their back on a firm surface. Kneel next to the person's neck and shoulders. Place the lower palm of your hand over the center of the person's chest, between the nipples. Place your other hand on top of the first hand. Keep your elbows straight. Place your shoulders directly above your hands. Push straight down on the chest at least 2 inches (5 centimeters) but no more than 2.4 inches (6 centimeters). Use your entire body weight, not just your arms, when doing compressions. Push hard at a rate of 100 to 120 compressions a minute. The American Heart Association suggests performing compressions to the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive." Allow the chest to spring back after each push. If you haven't been trained in CPR, continue chest compressions until there are signs of movement or until emergency medical personnel take over. In one year, telemonitoring of at-risk patients on high-flow oxygen at the University of Alberta Hospital detected 162 times in which patients removed their oxygen and 954 instances where a patient’s oxygen level fell too low. The number of patient falls declined by 75% and there were fewer transfers to ICU. Telemonitoring was introduced to improve safety. Sometimes, patients inadvertently remove their oxygen mask while asleep. To ensure constant monitoring, portable cameras are set up at the bedside, sending a live video feed to a trained attendant who continuously monitors multiple patients and can notify a nurse when something goes wrong. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dBxyQ-qc #ABHealth #PatientExperience

Standard 12: Basic life support in care homes – updated guide   This guide has been updated by the author, Adam Benson-Clarke, who is a Senior Resuscitation Practitioner. The guide provides an overview of basic life support techniques, in line with Resuscitation Council UK guidelines, with a focus on care home settings.   It was thoroughly updated in 2022, shortly after Resuscitation Council UK updated their resuscitation guidelines in 2021. The author has reviewed the guide again, to ensure that it is still in line with the guidance, and we have further updated both the text and illustrations.   This guide describes how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation by giving basic life support, consisting of airway, breathing and circulation support, while using basic equipment and appropriate personal protective equipment (where needed).   This includes information on how to:   ·      Open the airway, by performing a head-tilt/chin-lift; ·      Carry out chest compressions; ·      Provide the individual with rescue breaths using either a pocket mask or by direct mouth-to-mouth resuscitation; ·      Use an automatic external defibrillator. #cpr #nursing #elearning

I can not imagine. I had a close relative stay in hospital (thankfully not in the ICU) during the the beginning of the omicron wave in 2021. The relative was in hospital for idiopathic pancreatitis, with high fever, vomiting and a cough that was assumed to be COVID. Taken away, it took 10 hours to know if they did have COVID. Then began phone calls from different departments in the hospital to get a history of patient who has such a high fever they became delirious and unable to say what bought them to the hospital when asked. Even a surgeon called at some point to suggest a possible removal of the pancreas (something that was not discussed prior to patient being taken). Over the next 5 days, calling to check on patient status was not very helpful as the phone was handed over to patient who is recovering from delirium, glucose fluctuations etc, as there are literally not enough personnel (doctors, nurses) covering the ward to provide a clear instruction of what patient is going through. Off course no disrespect to the herrendous amount of work left on the shoulders of all of the medical professionals during that time and up until this very minute. It is only an experience that is not related to ICU stay of a patient, emotional taxing nonetheless. #covid19pandemic #ptsdawareness #hospitalisation #insightful #interesting #mentalhealth
