There's a company that is planning to migrate their well-established product from Ember.js to React. We're talking about a massive codebase with over 800,000 lines of code! 🤯 I come across several situations where a migration similar to this has been needed but each was for a very different set of reasons and under different circumstances. For this team the rationale behind this move is that 'the product has been losing traction continuously, falling behind its competitors not only in terms of community but also in technical capabilities. This has evidently resulted in a decreased velocity for the Web team and persistent challenges in hiring top-notch engineers'. Front-End, Back-End, Or FullStack what should I focus on? My 5 cents - => If you want to climb the corporate ladder vertically as an individual contributor; go for backend development. This is because the backend usually has greater scope for impact. => If you want to become a people manager and manage people go for Front-End development. This is because Front-End developers usually have more of a cross-functional role where they regularly interact with several stakeholders. => If you want to become a Technical Founder/Tech Entrepreneur go for Full-Stack development. Thanks to Microverse, I embarked on an incredible journey. Before, I didn't know a thing about programming, and now, I've not only learned the ropes but landed job offers left and right. Currently, I'm part of an exciting Korean startup in its early stages. Despite our product not being officially launched, investors are already eager to hop on board. As a full-stack developer handling React Native for the frontend and Nest.js and AWS for the backend, I embraced the challenge to learn and grow. Beyond my role, I spend my free time diving into tech blogs, driven by a desire for deeper understanding. I don't just see my work as a job; I treat it like building something of my own. It's not about working for the company; it's about working for myself, constantly learning and evolving. Even though project management isn't officially on my plate, I've taken it upon myself to ensure our team operates at its best. My efforts haven't gone unnoticed, and the CEO recognized my dedication. Juggling two apps and a foreign project, I've seen my skills and confidence soar. My monthly salary increases aren't just about contracts; they're a nod to the value I bring. I've transitioned into a developer and project lead for a team of 5 to 7 members.
