Are you with an organization or program that helps students and families successfully apply for financial aid using the FAFSA form? An important deadline is fast approaching for a FAFSA Support Activities funding opportunity: July 12, 2024, at 4 p.m. HST. The Hawai‘i Community Foundation is offering grants to support organizations and programs that are working toward increased awareness and completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for Hawaiʻi’s students, especially considering the modifications made to the 2025-2026 application process. As a continued effort to address the ongoing concerns students and families have about their upcoming college academic year, HCF is seeking opportunities to support and partner with community-based organizations or institutions that plan to provide direct services or response in assisting students and families with FAFSA completion. It's not a lack of ambition or dedication that leads students to put off their higher education. It's often a lack of access to financial resources. By funding student scholarships, you can witness what they set out to achieve, including founding nonprofits, leading industry, and making positive change — like scholarship-recipient Luis plans to do. Yesterday, only $975 was contributed to Sac State scholarships. We need your support today to increase that amount and keep students on the path to graduation. Great to hear MyBnk mentioned in the Westminster Hall Debate yesterday on financial education in schools. MP Marion Fellows recalled her visit to our Money House in Glasgow and the "great work" we do with care leavers. The debate also included some worrying statistics including: - A fifth of all adults in the UK are financially illiterate - Only 8% of students cite school as their main source of financial education - 4 in 5 young people worry about money and 3 in 4 want to learn more about money in school Our research produced with Compare the Market also shows 61% of young adults can't remember learning about money at school and only 44% of those with credit cards can be classed as financially literate. In its 2023 report, the College Board showed that in-state tuition and fees at private non-profit four-year institutions increased by 5% in inflation-adjusted dollars between the 2013-14 and 2023-24 school years. If your child or grandchild is approaching college age, a good first step is estimating the potential costs. Here's a chart that can help you get a better idea about the cost of college: https://lnkd.in/eT75fT94

Native Forward Scholars Fund has been at the forefront of providing financial support to Native students for over five decades. Despite our efforts and success, we currently face a significant gap in funding, with only 18% of applicants receiving scholarships. This leaves 82% of our deserving students without the financial support they need to pursue higher education. Our mission is to address this unmet need and ensure that every Native student has the opportunity to achieve their educational goals. The scholarships we provide are not just financial aid; they are lifelines that empower students to break cycles of oppression, achieve career goals, and contribute back to their Tribal communities. The impact of our work is evident in the successes of our scholars, who have gone on to become leaders and change-makers in their fields. Join us in our mission to empower Native scholars and bridge the funding gap. Together, we can create a brighter future for all Native students. Donate now: https://ow.ly/6CUc50SnoT5

Did you know about IGC's #OperationEducation? Here are a couple highlights from the last 12 months alone: Franklin Middle School – this is our second year working with Franklin, and we doubled our investment in the school to $5000 to sponsor a program there. The program allows the staff to identify children in need and lets the child pick a staff member to take them shopping. Some purchase new shoes, others supplies, and many purchase presents for siblings. Wilson Middle School – through a network connection, we were alerted to some of the struggles facing Wilson Middle School. An alarming amount of kids do not have meals outside of school and do not have sufficient cold weather gear to deal with winter conditions. We donated $5000 to the school to set up a pantry/closet where kids can take some food home at the end of the day so they can eat something at home or check out winter clothes so that they can play outside with their classmates. We also secured a partnership with HACAP to keep the pantry stocked on an ongoing basis. Marion School Foundation – We contributed $5000 to the start school right fund that provides backpacks and supplies to students in the Marion area. Linn Grove Elementary – The IGC contributed $2271 to sponsor a reading program for the kids. This money was used to purchase t-shirts to commemorate their efforts.
