Who doesn’t like the idea of pizza, robots and delivery drivers? They all go hand-in-hand! I’m on a journey, telling the story of trying to integrate all three. Lots of tech, some drama.
An update on the Pizza & Robots Journey! It’s been a busy week, and I feel like I’ve spent more time at the three restaurants than at home. I’ve added some new tech to test, to try to break, to write about, and to share the results. The first is MarginEdge. I’ve been dutifully uploading every receipt using their app, so it’s too early to know if it will work or not. I’ve been using Finaloop for the AI accounting, but it’s not great. The second will likely be Opus Training, an on-the-job training app that will build skills quickly, using what every employee will have - their smartphone. I’m evaluating their proposal, but so far, it looks like it will get our staff up to snuff quickly. We’ll also have our recipes there so our pizza cooks can duplicate our exact recipes. Crowdfunding Update: I’m testing some new subscription programs for the Philly location, which has been a little slower to raise funds for our opening in a few weeks. I’m curious to see if this as a potential Black Friday deal would work. The product is a Buy One, Gift One rev share subscription for Philly. It’s 4 cents for one subscription and 2 cents for the second one, and you can either gift or keep the subscriptions. That’s the revenue share on each pizza we make from the day we open Philly and bake our first pie for 12 months. Each recipient will also receive a Black Card from Branch (current subscribers will get one soon, too) that will have your funds on them weekly to save or cash out. Cost is $499. In Philly, all of our equipment is purchased and placed in our new unit (K12) on West Girard Avenue. Bryan Brock, PHR is getting his Serve Safe Manager certification this weekend, and then we can submit it to the health department. This is a location we are super excited about due to its density and the previous pizzeria that was there and disappeared from the scene. For Oceanside, we are still waiting on health department approval. Maybe this week, since last week was a no-show on their part. For Ramona, construction continues. We have committed to buying the RotoFlex Oven Co. oven, which will give us a 300-pie-per-hour capacity. The health department is coming next week to provide us with our new health certificate on our limited equipment setup, and then we’ll immediately file a new permit for the big oven. I’ve moved most of the equipment over from old Mamma Ramona’s, and we’ve made our last rent payment for the space. We save $8K a month on rent and utilities in the new space, not including the anticipated rent increase they had coming in January. I'm also waiting on the delivery of new equipment from Toast for the POS setup. Thank you for your continued support of Pizza & Robots! Shawn P. Why Domino's is Allocating $500,000 in Snow Plowing Grants? On December 4, Domino's revealed its initiative to grant $500,000 for snow plowing services, ensuring that customers can access the pizza chain even during harsh winter conditions. To apply for a grant, consumers can submit their zip codes, and the chain will distribute $25,000 to 20 cities throughout the season. The ongoing "Plowing for Pizza" program has already been implemented in Erie, Pennsylvania; Marquette, Michigan; and Manhattan, Montana. Aside from the financial support, the awarded cities will also receive winter accessories such as hats and scarves, along with branded merchandise. Additionally, each city will be gifted $200 in Domino's gift cards - This campaign builds on previous marketing initiatives, including Apple CarPlay integration, the Pinpoint Delivery system, and various "Emergency Pizza" offerings. It serves as a spiritual successor to the 2018 "Paving for Pizza" campaign, where Domino's repaired roads in multiple municipalities to ensure the safe transportation of pizzas. #socialmedia #marketing #partnerships #advertisments #collaboration #social #socialmedianews

The Kansas restaurant industry is buzzing about a social media post shared on a private Facebook group then shared and re-shared across social media accounts in both Wichita and Kansas City, generating hundreds of passionate comments. …Starting on Jan. 1, the company would be implementing a "tip refund" for credit card processing fees. Essentially, wait staff will have the fees the restaurant pays on credit card tips — 2.5% for Visa, Discover and Mastercard and 3.25% for American Express — deducted from their tips. So if a customer paid a $100 bill at Twin Peaks and the server got a $20 tip, she would be required to pay the restaurant back the 50 cents the restaurant paid the credit card company on the amount of the tip. Jennifer Ray owner of The Monarch at 579 W. Douglas in Wichita, has been public about her disdain for credit card fees, which during 2023 totaled $100,000 for her business. Those fees just keep rising, too. She wrote a letter to the editor that appeared in The Wichita Eagle in July where she argued that credit card swipe fees were out of control. Over the past decade, she said in the letter, credit and debit card swipe fees have more than doubled, and at her restaurant, only 9% of customers use cash. Swipe fees, she said, are among her highest costs besides food and labor. What is the question that you could have every member of your team asking? 🤔 ‘Do you want fries with that?’ is one quote Mcdonalds' implemented that increased their sales by an average of 15%- 40% consistently every year! They looked for a simple question that anyone could ask without any sales training. So what questions could you implement? With the run-up to Christmas coming to a close, it could be… 🌟‘Do you need any last minute gifts we could help you with?’ 🌟‘Do you need any gift vouchers?’ 🌟’Would you like me to show you any of our unique last minute gifts today?’ Rather than looking at it as sales, turn it into a genuine offer to help! Many clients will be stuck on what to get their friends, family members or even Secret Santa, and you just became their perfect solution🎁❤️
