Part 2 of this series dives more into the Maine semester itself and what students are focusing on during their transition to clinical medicine within their medical education.

In the past 4 weeks, my summer research assistants, Deelia Wang and Isaac Baek, have worked with me on 6 extended abstracts submitted to 2 conferences, the annual meetings of Society of Behavioral Medicine and ESPACOMP, International Society for Medication Adherence. Fingers crossed! Our submissions: 1) Do Older Adults Refer to Their Medication by Appearance, Purpose, or Name? 2) Older Adult Use of Multiple Triggers to Develop a Medication Adherence Safety Net. 3) Reevaluating the Utility of Time-Based Reminders to Increase Medication Adherence in Older Adults. 4) Hosting a Co-Design Workshop: Older Adults Ideate Medication Adherence Solutions. 5) An Interview Study with Older Adults to Identify Medication Management Strategies. 6) Searching for Medication Adherence Devices.

Welcome Rachel Gibbs as Longitudinal Shadowing Clinician Scientists Mentee Rachel Gibbs is a 1st year Medical Student and is participating in the new University of Alberta Longitudinal research shadow program. The Longitudinal research shadow program is designed to allow medical students to connect with professionals to learn from their career stories. The Longitudinal research shadow program matches medical students with a clinician scientist to learn about the day to day realities of that career, gain valuable advice, and explore career options. Longitudinal research shadow program is an opportunity to: - Learn about potential career options and ways to apply education, training and/or experience; - Test a career option before making a commitment to pursue it; - Clarify work-related preferences and interests

Last week, the students from P5, P6, Secondary 4, Pre-Universiy 1, and Pre-University 2 got the chance to learn valuable lessons. They joined the Puberty Awareness Workshop with Dr. Melinda Febiani, M. Biomed, Sp. OG. The transition from childhood to adolescence is an important and natural phase in every youngster's life. As they begin to experience various physical and emotional changes, it's essential that they have a safe space to learn, understand, and ask questions about these transformations. Workshop Highlights: - Exploring the physical changes associated with puberty. - Understanding the emotional and psychological aspects of growing up. - Addressing common questions and concerns that arise during this phase. - Promoting healthy body image, self-esteem, and self-care. - Encouraging open dialogue and discussions. A very important topic. Sharing experiences is a good way to avoid "feeling alone" in the challenge of balancing parenthood and doctoral studies. Looking forward to hearing to some more stories! #parenting #doctoralstudy #education
